Glass Ceiling

Was reading comments made by former WWE General Eric Bischoff about the upcoming Hell In A Cell match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte. He said he 'doesn't like it at all. ' adding 'that the audience may not necessarily want to see that type of entertainment and that type of match out of that type of an athlete.' and he closed his statement saying that this is his opinion.
Fine, he is entitled to his opinion. Considering the experience he had in this industry, I can see myself agreeing to his opinion. However, among the matches in this ppv, this match is the one I'm most eager to see.
I said this because this is a historical match in my opinion. The two wrestlers are breaking the proverbial glass ceiling. Often times, we hear the phrase 'break the glass ceiling'. 'Glass ceiling' refers to invisible but real barrier that prevents certain sections of qualified employees to advance to the next level of power or authority. This next level usually refers to a promotion and in most cases, it is the women and minorities who suffer from this 'glass ceiling'. These barriers exist due to implicit prejudice based on sex (women or members of the lgbt community) , age (older generation), ethnicity, political affiliation, or religious beliefs. The practice is generally illegal but it is prevalent.
Anyway, it is hard to believe that with all the advancement we have made, such biases still exist. Hopefully, there will be a time that all barriers will be broken and that 'glass ceilings' would cease to exist.
Have you broken through a 'glass ceiling'? Or perhaps, you are a victim of a 'glass ceiling'? Tell me about it in the comments section below.
Plus, wrestling fan or not, tell me what you think of the Hell In A Cell match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte.

@allen0187 I have never been a victim of "glass ceiling", I started to work with my husband (who is self employed) when I was only 19, we still work together.

I have not watched wrestling in years. I do think that the ladies should be able to have a Hell In A Cell match. They put on a good match and most of them train just as hard as the men do.

Women wrestlers are more than mere eye candy nowadays. They actually headline pay per views now.

@allen0187 I think that lots of women wrestlers have proven that they were more than eye candy through out the years. The Fabulous Moolah comes to mind when I say this. I think that the ceiling was broke officially when Chyna started wrestling in the WWE. She was not the typical "Barbie" wrestler.

@Shellyann36 true plus Chyna wrestled with the regular roster so that in itself was a feat.

It is hypocritical of him because he actually let women do hardcore matches on TNA when he was it's creative booker. The Hardcore matches of TNA women is the reason why WWE is doing this women's revolution stuff right now. WWE got threatened when the hardcore last man standing match between Gail Kim and Taryn Terell trended on twitter for weeks.

First time, I've heard about TNA's hardcore women's match. Goes to show, I'm not much of a follower and fan of TNA.

@CaptAlbertWhisker well, some people are meant to break 'glass ceilings' but some are meant to put up 'glass ceilings'.

@allen0187 I think Laurinitis' departure is the best thing that happened to women. I remember he scolded Melina and Michelle Mccool for having a great match because he dont want them to outshine the guys.

Not that I am aware of. I haven't heard about the term in the workplace but a ceiling is familiar to me like the salary ceiling. If an employee reached the tenurity, he will not get raise because of the ceiling.

A salary ceiling is something that we do not look forward to.
After all, who wants to have a limit to one's earning potential?!!

@CaptAlbertWhisker an AJ Lee-Paige match would have been awesome! Too bad it didn't come to fruition.

Sasha Banks had been wrestling since she is 16 years old. she is only 23. Before WWE hired her she wrestles men. Charlotte only have 4 years of wrestling experience but she already proven she can outwrestle men.
I felt bad for AJ Lee and Paige who actually begged WWE to let them have a Hell in a Cell match but they didnt let her because it is during the Laurinitis era. Laurinitis scolds women if they outwrestled men and wanted matches between women to be sexy and girly.

I went to Sheep Shearing School and was the only female in the class. It was hard to make weight, as I had to wear layers of clothes and my heavy steel toed shoes. Many times people wanted to hire my brother and not me because I'm a female.
I say go for it ladies. Its not easy to get respect in a field where people are use to seeing a man.

@allen0187 well, it depends where a person is, because we sometimes see it in a very interesting contrast-for example, in some churches (not just Catholic or Orthodox), the idea of women being ordained to the presbytery is not permitted. And as a curious matter of role reversal, in some churches, or a liberal diocese (the Anglican Church has both conservatives and liberals, but) a person who is even mildly conservative in a liberal diocese will not be ordained even if they have all the credentials with honors, ie the exact opposite. In theory the person should be ordained, but they simply will not be in a particular area.

I watch wrestling but i do not enjoy women wrestling. However that is not to say they are not skillful. i marvel at those women and they have in their hold almost all ,if not more 'move' in their fights than the men. It's not boring, I guarantee that, but there are time when i flinch. I feel the women are too extreme and too brutal. But I love the idea that they have their own championship belt. Power to them. Let those who want to excel here be given the opportunity. Just not for me...no, thank you!

Women wrestling is indeed breaking new ground this year. I won't be surprised if future WrestleMania's have women's matches as a main event.

This will be history in the making. But I would think the match will have its limitation. It could be the first time I see women in Wwe get blood all over them. Have not seen that women get busted wide open in a match in WWE. Was there a time?

WWE has done away with showing blood during matches since they went PG-13. Too many children watching the matches and seeing their favorite wrestlers 'bloodied' ain't too good for business.
Can't recall a women wrestler getting busted. All I remember are those wardrobe malfunctions!

Well, 'glass ceilings' aren't just limited to wrestling. In fact, it can exist in almost every facet of life sadly. Anything that prevents someone from advancing in life like in career or education due to factors such as age, gender, and religious beliefs can be considered a 'glass ceiling'.
