I Voted!

Last week I wrote that the election was almost over for me.
Today, I can honestly say that it is.
My husband and I both received our ballots over the weekend. We filled them out and I dropped them off at the post office this morning.
Now I feel like an observer. When I get those phone calls in the evening, all I have to say is "I voted" and they immediately hang up.
After I posted on Facebook that I have already voted, I noticed that I have been getting fewer political comments on my timeline. That has been wonderful!
I think if more people announced on Facebook and Twitter that they have already voted, the amount of political hysteria on social media might slow down. Every day, there will be fewer minds to change and less of a reason for people to send out political propaganda.
It is actually a wonderful relief. I don't think I would change how I voted for any reason, so now I can just sit back and wait for the results. Whew! Glad its over!

My ballot is on its way to me and it won't take long to fill it out and drop it off around the corner. I am lucky to live in a state that will vote the way that I will. I could not live in a red state for a week.

@JamesHxstatic - I lived in Texas for 25 years and now live in one of the most Republican counties in California. In the past, I noticed that many of my friends loudly promoted their Republican presidential candidates. This year, only a couple of them do. That's better than any poll, as far as I'm concerned. I've always leaned left, but I have learned to navigate life in Republican areas.

@DeborahDiane One of the reasons I left there many years ago, was all the right wing stuff. I read Ramparts Magazine and a copy was seen in my desk, so questions were raised. It was the cradle of the John Birch Society and even the police forces were split politcally in the early 60s. I returned there after the Army in 1965 and left in '69.

@JamesHxstatic - There are a few more liberals in Orange county now ... especially around Laguna Beach. I have a group of friends that I can discuss politics with ... and a group that I never touch the subject with.

In the State of California, where I live, we can vote for almost a month before every election. As soon as my husband and I got our ballots, we went ahead and voted. In 37 states, people can vote early. In 13 states, they have to wait until Nov. 8 ... which is unfair for people who may be on a trip or have other reasons why they cannot vote on that day.

@louievill - Yes, the best part of living in a Democracy is that we all get a chance to vote ... and the person with the most votes gets to promote their agenda.

Honestly, I think I will be happy with the results of the election. Only one candidate supports the issues of importance to me ... and has plans to do so in a way that will not add to the federal deficit. Of course, other people have issues of importance to them ... which is exactly why we vote.

Good for you and they really need to make these election cycles shorter. This post proves that point and glad no one is bugging you as much.

@crossbones27 - I agree about shorter election cycles. No one should be allowed to announce or start running more than one year before the election. If they want to move the primaries a little later, that would be fine with me.

@Bluedoll - This election has been a bit like American Idol ... although I think the contestants are more mature on American Idol.

That's good that your decision is behind you.
How is it that you receive your ballots in the mail, here we have to go to a voting station to receive our ballot and have to fill it out right there and someone deposits it into the ballot box one at a time as you go up.

In 37 states in the United States, people can vote early. In California, where I live, we can ask to have our ballot mailed to us and we can vote up to three weeks early. In some states, they can vote one month early. I love it!

@DeborahDiane Even if Hillary wins we can expect that the other clowns will not accept the vote and the Circus goes on.

@DianneN - Trump just said ridiculous things ... like saying women can get abortions one day before the baby is due or saying that Mosul has already fallen (and the moderator had to correct him). He just makes things up, and doesn't know anything. My daughter laughs at the way Trump talks. She said today that her 2 1/2 yr old said "I just took a bigly bite" and then he started laughing so hard she was afraid he would choke on his lunch! LOL.

@DianneN - The debate was insane! Trump would not commit to accepting the results and he referred to Clinton as a "nasty woman." The moderator had to shush the crowd when they laughed after Trump said, "No one respects women more than I do." According to CNN, Clinton won the debate 52% to 39%. Basically, only his core followers thought he won.
