We've got a ways to go yet, but we're slowly getting there. #8 in my Favorite "Lie" Songs series belongs to "Terrible Lie" by Nine Inch Nails.
Multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor is, essentially, Nine Inch Nails. Reznor does nearly everything on an album, after which a touring band is assembled. As such, Reznor has always been the industrial band's only constant member. A two-time Grammy winner, Nine Inch Nails have, according to Wikipedia, sold over 20 million records worldwide.
"Terrible Lie," from Nine Inch Nails' 1989 debut, Pretty Hate Machine (Triple Platinum,) was not a hit. In fact, it wasn't even released as a single (it probably should have been, but I'm not a record exec, so what do I know?)

It is a bit on the experimental side which is why it wasn't a single.
