Lately my friend had a travel in Japan. She didn't buy much in Japan because she planed to have the shopping at last in Toyko airport before she left. As she thought it would be duty free there and the price should be better.
Oh... I often think most airports in the world sell a higher price. My friend found that the airport in Toyko was even smaller than our city Guangzhou. Besides, the price was expensive there. So finally she didn't buy anything but brought back an empty luggage

@youless At least she saved money in not buying all the useless things that she doesn't need.

London is full of tourists since the Brexit : the pound reached a week ago its lower level since... 1848. The prices are starting to raise now for foreign goods, but there are still many good deals to do for other Europeans, as long as the Brexit has not been activated.

Most things anywhere now is Made in China except for high end ones, so better just buy it there she should have just bought souvenir not found there. Made in Japan is very expensive.

@youless I also find it weird why some Chinese and Hong Kong Ebay sellers do not like to ship to the Mainland but will ship free to the Philippines

You are completely right about the prices in airports. Duty-free is a rip off. It might be that they don't pay taxes for selling to you, but they don't pass the saving to your bill. Buying in an airport is like buying in a high-street shop. You pay an extra price for buying in a "nice" place.

Man proposes and customs disposes...... i have had experiences like that - keeping things for the last moment. Sometimes you might find a better bargain, but on the whole, better to play safe than be sorry..... like the picture of the empty luggage.
