Expensive doesn't necessarily mean it works well - New Vacuum First Impressions: Dirt Devil Pro Express Upright Vacuum

Our new Vacuum - Dirt Devil Pro Express Upright Vacuum

A few years ago during Black Friday, we purchased a little Dirt Devil vacuum for $20 bucks. I was hesitate due to the price as I didn't think the vacuum could do much. Shockingly, the vacuuming works even better than our Dyson that cost 20x that price! Since our current Dirt Devil is getting old, we decided to go out & purchase a new one. They no longer carry the compact style anymore, so we selected the next best which was this Dirt Devil Pro Express Upright Vacuum. Only $40 at Target. The new features that we didn't have before is the extension wands for hard to reach areas (Ex. cleaning the cracks, hard to reach crevices, etc.) So far, we vacuumed upstairs/downstairs, & 2 cars! You see all the dust and it's reusable so that's nice! Plus the vacuum is light weight so it isn't hard to lug around which is nice. Moral of the story - Expensive doesn't necessarily mean it works well! Though when it comes to shopping, I do look for reliable brands but for a vacuum ~ price doesn't mean it works well! The Dyson doesn't even suck up much dust/dirt, I would have to vacuum that same spot a few times - so that was annoying! Hopefully this vacuum will last a few years before replacing. Though the old one there is nothing wrong but we thought it's time to retire it. Do you replace items when they're broken? Or do you replace items just because?

You are so right and I am going to buy a Little Devil too, because my expensive Dyson broke yesterday, only after a little more of one year of use.

Eek! I wonder if they still provide warranty? I read the newer boxes, it says ship it back for free fixing but nothings free now a days. The cheap previous Dirt Devil we used it for like 3 years and that little baby sucks the life out of the carpets clean =) LOL.

@infatuatedbby Yes, it was under warranty, I brought it to the shop where I bought it and it will be repaired free. The warranty here in Switzerland is 2 years for every appliance, that is not too bad. I do not know how long I have to wait.

I went through a vacuum every two years finally I bought a dyson and it has lived past its warranty of 5 years. Thats awesome the dirt devils seem to work so well. I had a small handheld one I loved years ago. I used to use it to vacuum the stairs when it had carpet.

That is great your Dyson held up! Mine was crappy and Anna @LadyDuck hers went out after a year! I guess it's a hit/miss product.

We have a central vac but sometimes I need to do places where it is a pain to bring the hose. so I think I am going to look into that little guy .

What does a central vac normally do?

I have a Dirt Devil that looks almost exactly like yours, except mine is blue (which is weird, because I thought all Dirt Devils were red). Anyway, I've had mine for over 10 years, and it still works great! As long as I take it apart every now and then and give it a good cleaning, it should continue to hold up well for many more years to come!

I have the blue one too. :) It works very well! I don't want to clean the old one so we bought a new one lol.

@infatuatedbby We have a vacuum repair store here in town, and they pay a guy to drive around to all the student apartment complexes around the University of Florida picking up vacuums that were thrown in they dumpsters. They take them back to the shop, spend about 15 minutes cleaning them really good, and then put them out in the store to sell. Because they are "used vacuums," the students all go there to buy them since they are cheaper than buying them at Wal-Mart or Target.

@teamfreak16 Oh no =( I got a carpet cleaner at Target last year on clearance for $40 originally $160! It works wonders. Hope you find a good deal on a new one if you're on the market
