A Birthday Celebration

Yesterday was my daughter, Beth's, 19th birthday. During the day Tasha (my eldest) and I made chocolate & cream cheese brownies, Beth's birthday cake of choice. My mother joined us in the evening and we all went out to our local Italian restaurant for a meal.
As you can see from the photograph, the pizzas are absolutely massive in this place. I brought half of mine home with me. It was tasty food though, although not the greatest menu for vegetarians. Mum struggled to find things that were appropriate for her, but she settled on a veggie pizza in the end, which she enjoyed.
After the meal, the waiter serenaded Beth with 'Happy Birthday to you' and presented her with a shot of Sambuca. It was a nice gesture but Beth took one sip of the Sambuca and declared it the most disgusting thing she had ever tasted! There was just no way she could've drunk it. I think aniseed is definitely a love/hate thing. I had a sip out of curiosity and agreed it was pretty vile. It reminded me of the Pernod I used to drink in the 1980s - Pernod & black. It was all the rage for teenagers wanting to get drunk quickly (and if you weren't sick before the night was out, it was a rare thing.)
We didn't have dessert in the restaurant, just coffee and then back home for the birthday chocolate brownie. Beth said she'd had a really nice day.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday? What is the best birthday you've had?

Belated happy birthday to your daughter! I am sure she really felt happy and satisfied with how you celebrated her birthday.
As for me, I would love to celebrate my birthday by travelling to far places. The most unforgettable birthday I had so far was last August 2015. That was the first time I would travel abroad. It was supposed to my trip alone but my boyfriend surprised me by going with me in Singapore.

Happy belated birthday to Beth. Looks like you had a wonderful time. You certainly have a beautiful family there. Sambuca is nasty. I can see why she didn't drink it! They could have given her something better then that lol
We usually go out for family birthday meals on our birthdays. I enjoy that Anytime I get to spend with family is my favorite birthday. Last year I had a nasty flu on my birthday so I never got to go out! It was the worse birthday ever.

@5thHouse wow that would be nice. A bunch of my friends from high school went to NY for our 50th birthdays but I didn't go! I have regretted it ever since.

That's such bad luck getting flu on your birthday. Usually for mine we go to the Lake District for a day. It's become a tradition for us as it's one of our favourite places to go. Next year we may be breaking the tradition though and going to New York for my 50th birthday.

Those pizzas are large. They were considered a single meal ?

What a nice family picture. Happy you got to enjoy. Here it is customary - many restaurants give a free birthday meal.. I like getting the free meal and shopping, going out and celebrating later.
