The Topic Was Socks, or Discussions

I come to you from @Bluedoll's discussion of the worst kind or discussions, plus empty benches and socks.
I think many of us got stuck on socks, and that is okay.
Her discussion made me think of a few things, such as the worst kind of discussion in my opinon. That is a discussion that seems to lecture me. I also looked at her image of the empty bench and found I liked the solitude, and the curved lines that made it look quite comfy as far as benches go.
Of course I also thought of socks. I have a drawer full of various socks. Some have patterns and designs, others are rather plain. Some are long, some short. I even have two pair of socks that have five toes on each foot.
Then of course I thought of how we take care of our socks in the laundry to prevent that hungry washer or dryer from eating one of each pair. I bought "lingerie bags" . They are made of mesh fabric, with a zipper closure. They work great for corralling socks and herding them all together. They do not do well when washed with garments that have hooks or things with Velcro though.
So maybe you have a sock washing method. This brings to mind the young child who thought the Christmas song was "While Shepherds Washed Their Socks By Night."
We may be able to think about socks all night.

when i visited my sister, i was given a bag of assorted clean socks to match. some went back to the bag, still without partners.
i put bras in the mesh bags, also anything with tassels, lace, or made of thin/light/delicate fabric.
i only have a few pairs of socks, mostly black and gray. maybe because i don't wear sneakers. i did have one pair with five toes and slept with them during the colder months (jan to feb)

I kno that is how those bags are meant to be used, but the socks worked for me. We are colder here than where you are and I do not want to wear open toed shoes to work. Sneakers for me. My hubby buys only one kind of sock and it is white. We still put his socks in a bag as well as it makes them always come out even.

@hereandthere One woman I knew had three children. She said she bought the same socks for all of the family, white crew socks. When laundry was done the people who got busy and got their socks first got the newest and cleanest looking socks.

I am a sock-a-holic - they are the only thing I can buy that fits if I'm skinny or fat LOL

Oh, that makes lots of sense, unfortunately. I always think of them as a bright spot in my day or in my outfit.

It pretty well keeps them safe in the washing machine.

That discussion that @Bluedoll started reminded me of some of the discussions we would have on the original myLot.

@LadyDuck I feel like I have known you forever, though. We may have met on other writing sites as well.

I used to have clips, you could clip the toes of the pair together to wash, but you had to have a ton of them, and they made the machine sound all clunky so that didnt last too long lol

I had some little round plastic discs that you pulled a pair of socks through. Same problem, you needed a ton. I wish I had known about the bags years ago when my kids were young.

My favorite method? Buy cheap Chinese-made socks, wear'em around the house as house slippers for a week, then compost them. (If still intact, they'd be guaranteed to fall apart in the laundry, so why bother.) There's a local woman who makes a living selling this kind of disposable cotton socks.

I would love to be able to stay around the house for a week. I am afraid my frugality would give me nightmares with this method, though.

Wild rambles suit me much more than wild brambles that is for sure. Not quite so prickly.

I buy mostly white socks, so when one disappears, I can just wait until the next one disappears, and then everything is OK again. I don't like being lectured either. Do those kinds of Discussions do well? I don't remember shepherds washing their socks, but I did say "...one Nation, under God, invisible..."

Hubby tries not only to just buy white socks, he wants a certain brand. He does still bag them though.

That would be an awful lot of work. I do have some things I like to hand wash.
