That new, warm electronics smell

Does anyone else know the smell I'm talking about? The smell you get in certain stores like "Best Buy" where you smell the clean but yet, somehow artificial smell of brand new electronic items. Sometimes this smell is even stronger if you are fortunate enough to have purchased such an item as a new tv, a modem, a radio or cd player. I have a few short stories about this and I know you guys must be thinking how strange I am, or maybe how boring my life is? Ha ha. First off find it, the smell, sort of pleasant in it's own way. But then I know I am strange when it comes to smells since I like the smell of bleach and cleaners too. Secondly, one day I was walking around my apartment smelling this new electronics smell. It was really strong, so much so that I was concerned that something might catch fire, it smelled like hot, electronics, chemicals. It was stronger in my hallway area. So I stopped and sniffed, smelling and smelling. I couldn't figure it out, as all that's in the hallway is a closet and a basket of clean clothes waiting to be put away. I was about ready to contact the apartment's maintenance team - when I figured it out. It was my basket of clean clothes. I posted a little while back about how you can wash thrift clothing in Lysol liquid to disinfect it. That's what I had done. Apparently the mixture was too strong though, and there you have it. Lysol smells like electronics. If you're going to wash your items in Lysol it only takes a small amount. I had a reason just recently to smell for real - new electronics smell with my new toaster. If you are buying a new toaster the instructions said to wipe off the outside of the unit and then put no food in, but use it for a cycle to burn off any dust or chemicals. I did this several times as it still smelled after once. And there you have it. Strange events in my life connected with a strange smell. I was almost going to go into the music store smell, but that is a different smell entirely.... Photo: Mine

Smells are interesting. I love the smell of tar and coal.

I like tar too. And I also find a touch of skunk pleasing, as it reminds me of Montana.

I have a strong sense of smell. And I do enjoy that fresh electronics smell. I wonder what it was about the Lysol. Could it have interacted with the heat in the dryer somehow?

Oh that's so cool to meet another person who likes the smell. I never put that together about the Lysol and dryer though. Easily possible...

@FayeHazel Heat does interesting things to chemicals. Another favorite smell of mine is hot fresh laundry when I use Bounce. I find that parrots and cockatiels smell similar to fresh laundry with Bounce. Is that weird or what?

@TheHorse Oh so true, hot fresh laundry is good. How about when you hang something outside and bring it in. Smells, different. Like Ozone? Lol, I haven't been close enough to parrots of cockatiels, but I bet that could happen. BEcause,... lol - I think cats smell like cornbread. Seriously

Oh no, that's too bad. Do you get affected by perfumes, too?

I've never really noticed, but now that you mention it, electronics departments do kind of smell good.
