My Thrift Store (Bad) Experience

Ok - I had to share this because I am still very fired up about this. I went to this thrift store I hadnt been to before - a pay by the pound "outlet" of a big thrift store chain. I love these types of places, you can find some great deals! Since I am a frequenter of this organization's thrift stores - I am familiar with how things work. When you go to cash out, the cashiers usually ask if you want to "round up" your bill to donate to their cause - which gets annoying when you go there as much as I do - sometimesI say yes, other times not so much. Anyway at this thrift store - the unfriendly cashier did NOT ask me or my sister to round up our bill or donate. Later when I was going through receipts - i noticed on the bottom of mine that it said 0.01 CASH DONATION. And just out of curousity - I looked at my sisters - and it said 0.04 CASH DONATION. When this gal did not ask either of us! The one penny I "donated" does not bother me - its one penny. But the fact that they just added this donation on my bill....I wonder how many dollars this cashier has gotten off of people without them knowing. I wrote a big angry letter to corporate, ha. We will see if they respond. Have you ever had this happen? Check your receipts carefully!

It wouldn't bother me, after all it's not as if it's going into the cashier's own pocket.

How can you collect "donations"without getting that persons permission? Wouldnt that be stealing? I wouldnt mind donating if they asked but its the fact that they didnt...

@maezee I wouldn't call it stealing, more of just an oversight on her part.

@jaboUK Perhaps. Just found it strange that it happened to two customers in a row. Maybe I dont have enough faith in people lol

I can't stand when a cashier at a store ask if I want to round up the bill. The answer is always a big fat NO.

Yeah! The good wills around here literally do it every time. And I frequent Good will and it gets very very old.

I'd be upset about that, a penny saved is a penny earned comes to mind plus it's mine to give or not.

Whoa! That is good to know. I recently went to Colorado and some places charged a "sustainability" fee that they would tack on to places like restaurants if you didnt say anything. That seems wrong also unless they are upfront about it!
