Have You Ever Complained About the Price of Gasoline?

A friend of mine recently pointed out that there are a lot of things that we use or drink that are a lot more expensive than gasoline. I asked: “Like what?”
She said: “Vick’s Nyquil. It’s $8.35 for 6 ounces. That’s $33.60 a gallon. Evian bottled water is $1.49 for 9 ounces. That’s $21.19 per gallon.” And there are a lot of other things that she used as an example.
I had never thought about it, before. But, if you DO think about it, we are constantly buying small bottles of something and we don’t realize that “by the gallon” it would be very expensive. We simply pay the $1.49 for water, or the $8.35 for over-the-counter medicine and we don’t consider the overall cost per gallon. At least, I don’t. Do you?
Then, I thought about something that I use a lot of and that is INK for my printer. For a very small amount of ink, I have paid a huge price. It’s ridiculous, really. Even “White-out” is $1.39 for .7 ounces. I’m looking at a bottle of it right now. That would equal $25.42 a gallon.
OUTRAGEOUS! What do you think? Just be glad, she said, that your car doesn’t run on bottled water or “white-out.” REALLY!

Right now, petrol (gas) is right around $2 per gallon. What is it in England?

I try to use less and less, but I love to print out things for my self-education. I print less now than I used to though.

The difference between gas prices and the other items you mentioned is that we use small amounts of those items. We must be constantly filling the car up with gas just so it will stay running. You don't buy whiteout or other similar things by the gallon. You can buy water by the gallon but don't consume it all quickly. Just my opinion, what do I know?

@IreneVincent A lot of it is from greed. They know that if you want it, you will pay what they ask. It is the same with gas. They know you need it to run your car, so they can charge whatever they want.

You are right, of course. But, it still doesn't make sense that some of those things are priced so high. It couldn't possibly take that much money to produce and distribute it.
