Well folks, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it has been released that those of us on Social Security will be getting screwed; AGAIN, in 2017. Yuppers, the raise, on average will be $3.92. That is a whopping .3% increase. This will of course be offset by the hike in premiums for Supplemental Insurance Policies. The average monthly income for SS folks is supposedly $1305.30 (I wish); mine is $1160. Mine will be a staggering increase of $3.48. Do you want to know whose fault this all is? Wait for it.....President Lyndon Johnson back in the mid 80's. Yup, he thought that it was a good idea to "temporarily borrow" money from the Fund. And then.... During Bush's 4-year term $211.7 BILLION dollars went to the Treasury for 'general government expenditures'. Not to us old farts who earned it; oh hell no!! And now because the government is constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul, we can look forward to these kinds of 'raises' in the future......maybe. I'd like to see these 'politicians' (crooks) live on our salaries. And let's not forget the millions of "illegal aliens" that are on the dole either. Puk-Puk-Puk
The typical retiree's monthly Social Security check will get only $3.92 bigger next year. That amounts to an increase of just 0.3% -- the smallest ever put in place to help cover higher prices. That's still an improvement from this year, when the lack of i

@rebelann I've had to resort to using flour and oatmeal as litter and my cans of tuna to feed them.

over here they've brought in workplace pensions where every employer has to provide a pension plan and if you pay in the employer does too. I think it's because they recognise the state pension will be unsustainable soon. With people living longer they're going to have to work well past retirement age.

And quadruple puk. I'm trying to wait two more years to claim any of my benefits and then I'm hoping I can continue to work full-time for six additional years. If I can, I'll use my benefits to pay off consumer debt and maybe even whittle down my home equity and mortgage. Then and only then would my benefits do me much good after I retire. I won't have any IRA's to utilize or savings at this point unless things change in the next six years. Good luck in making the funds work for you.
