The song "Hey Man, Nice Shot" by Filter, came out in 1995. The fact that this song came out so soon after the apparent suicide of grunge artist Nirvana frontman, Kirt Cobain led many to believe the song was about his suicide. However, Filter frontman, Richard Patrick, said in an interview, that the song is actually about the suicide of R. Bids Dwyer in 1987.
Dwyer was the Pennsylvania State Treasurer, who was found guilty of racketeering, bribery and fraud. He committed suicide on live television, by sticking a gun in his mouth and blowing off the back of his head, leaving his face in tact. This happened before delays were put on live broadcasts.
Many songs have been misinterpreted by listeners over the years. What are some of your favorite stories?
