Last Diwali may not have been good, or before that too...
And this may be your chance to celebrate some truly special occasion.
But could you spare a thought for those soldiers that died on front and their families.
Could be he had an elderly parent who could barely walk or needed medication;
Could be he was recently married or awaited a new born baby to come home to;
Could be his daughter scored well in her examinations and was looking forward to join Armed Forces Medical College.
Whatever be his joys and aspirations, they took a beating and left unfulfilled...
The family is in tears, future uncertain.
I don't say do not celebrate. After all, next year you could miss a loved one too.
But temper it down. Eat but eat inside home. Wear good clothes but do not brandish it around. Have those lights, but do not make sound.
That way we would have expressed some solidarity with our people dying on front, and told them, we are not too happy because you are facing tough times for us. We are not too happy because your family too is not happy.
Hey guys, do not wish anybody happy diwali, show some sensitivity...and if you could pass on the thought, I will be grateful.

This is a sad situation for sure. I agree with everything except wishing happiness, wellness and prosperity to others! If one of my brother is in extreme pain, it doesn't mean I wouldn't wish happiness to the other.

@vandana7 That is normal to feel like that. Obviously the other brother will feel concerned. But what about an oblivious brother who is not aware of other brother's situation and I am not keen on telling him that (for one reason or another) and ruin his happiness?

@Daljinder .. In the past, it did not feel as bad. But with visual media, the impact is much more I feel. So I do feel bad if it is our soldiers or civilians that are hurt. I never could forget Capt. Kalia. And I will not be able to forget Mandeep Singh.

@vandana7 Yeah with technology we can even see the live feed of the border. That is one situation where I don't know whether to curse media for exposing border to the enemies live or praise them for keeping us informed and the families of soldiers whose eyes are glued to the tv for even a tiny bit of news of border.

Generally I wish a prosperous Diwali, if I ever cared to wish!
Would like to know what our soldiers are doing on this occasion. They are the best to lead with show of solidarity.

Diwali is a festival of positiveness. A symbol of victory over dark and sadness. Yup it hurts when someone get the martyr but at the same time its a proud moment too.
