Just Scored a Table with 4 Chairs for $20!!!

My husband's mother let us keep her table and chairs until she was able to find an apartment. Well, she found the apartment she could afford and we returned her set to her. We have been eating our meals in the living room.
Thanks to Facebook online tag sales I was able to find a halfway decent set for $20. The original asking price was $40 and he reduced it to $20 to get it out of their house. Score!!!!
We really wanted a new set, but, until we can afford a new set, this is the way to go. The chairs need a little refinishing, but for that price, it was worth it!

With so many things that have come up that will be costly, used is the way to go!

@much2say depending on the stability of the set we may not need to buy new for many years.

@ElusiveButterfly We do that too . . . and sometimes they even end up to be keepers and we end up not buying the new one!

We will keep them until we can afford a new set. My husband wants to get all new furnishings for our home. I love the idea that he wants us to have nice things. Melts my heart.

@DianneN I have high hopes for springtime. The windows will have to wait until warmer weather. The roof can't be shingled until spring either. Other than heating the place and doing the other inside work, there isn't a lot we can do.

@ElusiveButterfly I had a table (still do; I use it in the laundry room) that I had to cover the top with a table cloth all the time and I would have to get underneath it a couple of times a year and tighten the screws to keep the legs from wobbling!

@peavey Hubby has to tighten the screws in the legs of this table. But, other than that it is quite sturdy.

The set was in a little rougher shape than the picture showed. But, it is sturdy. Couldn't beat the price either.

When I left my ex I lived in a one room apartment and all my furniture was free. I'd hear of someone at work getting rid of something and I would go get it. I even took the book shelves the office I was working in got rid of.

I always check out what is offered for "free" along side the roads. Sometimes people just don't want to be bothered with selling an item and it can be in excellent shape!

@celticeagle Even if you don't need any of the stuff, you can sell them to make some extra money.

@ElusiveButterfly ......That is true. My daughter and granddaughter love to dumpster dive. My girlfreind had a boyfriend for awhile that was a trashman. He used to bring home the greatest stuff. Jewelry, watches that worked, lamps, all kinds of stuff. It's just so easy to throw stuff out and use a credit card to buy new.

There had been quite a few sets available, but the prices were quite high. This was the most reasonable option and the set was in pretty good shape for the price.

@marlina I need the luck. There isn't much out there lately. When I do find something, there are 3 or more people ahead of me who have shown interest in it.

That is the natural color. It will go great with the walls once we get the walls finished.

It looks so lovely. And you can do up the chairs exactly the way that you like them!
I grew up with a huge dining room suite, which was passed down from my Grandma, who had it custom made, and when I was in my late 20's that suite became mine. So I never thought of the possibilities of anything else until our son's fiancée's mother had us over. When she and her husband divorced she bought a beautiful wood table and with it she bought 6 chairs. Now the table is typical wood stain, but the chairs are all comfortable padded chairs on casters. Its such a fun place to visit and enjoy a meal, she has wonderful decorating taste.

The chairs are made of wood too and the finish is wearing off. With a little sand paper and varnish I can bring them back to life. Unless, I choose to just remove the finish and let them remain in their natural color.

I am still happy with it. But, noticed that I may need to buy some wood glue to tighten up the chairs.

@Jessicalynnt When we finally are able to afford a new set, I will find a home for this set. Perhaps one of my children will need it. Who knows.

It was a little more rough looking than was in the picture. But, it is quite sturdy and looks like it will last for a good long time.

@ElusiveButterfly If you like it and it is presentable and useable, that's all that matters.

@ElusiveButterfly It certainly looks good. If it is useable, presentable, and you like it, that's all that matters. We often go second hand.
