The State Parks along the northern coast of California charge $35 for primitive camping, but there is a nice private campground for $25/night with beautiful views and a hiking trail about a mile long through some very beautiful scenery. It is adjacent to one of the public parks with free access for people staying at the private camp. During peak season this area is very crowded, but we came here in September when there were just a few other people. The name of this place is Ocean Cove and I like it because although it is somewhat isolated they do have a little grocery store.
Do you like to camp? Do you like to "rough it" or do you prefer certain amenities?

My children are wilderness campers but they join me when they can at a State Park in New York where I camp every summer. I have camped at that particular campground since 1945 (missed a few years due to life). I appreciate the walk to a clean bathroom and enjoy a hot shower if I really need it.

@drannhh I camped with my sister (she was divorced with three little ones) and my husband worked all summer and I had three little ones too. It became a tradition and now in my 70's we still camp every summer. This last summer all the kids and grands showed up. Upstate NY is too cold in August at night so be camp in June/July. That campground is the one we visit every year.

@drannhh @MarshaMusselman is right, the link at the bottom of my comment is the link to the campground I go to every summer. Our camp is very busy in the summer too and we can reserve our site (and we do have a few favorites). because we camp in July we can reserve in October, we have our site for this year already. We are allowed two weeks on a site.

Oh now this place sounds just perfect to me Dr.Ann. You now how I love the ocean and in a cove is beautiful. Very cheap for the night. I do like to camp yes, but haven't done so in years. I remember though.

@BelleStarr Fast unlimited WiFi is my favorite amenity, but sometimes it is good to get away from everything just for a few days.

I have never slept in a tent either, @sueznewz2 but we hung up some sheets for privacy around a camp toilet. We slept on a mattress in the back of my van, with the doors locked, rflol.

I camped somewhat a lot when I was younger. We went to a church reunion each year and stayed in tents and sleeping bags on the ground. I couldn't do that anymore. Now, when we do that type of thing we rent a hotel, plus my husband has a prosthetic on the lower section of one leg and the tent thing wouldn't work well for him either.
If we could afford some type of camper or RV, I'd go that route instead, but I doubt that will happen in this lifetime.

@MarshaMusselman Sounds like wonderful memories. Although I never actually camped out until recently, my growing up years were spent in a densely forested home.

@drannhh Wow, I've never met anyone before that actually had a forest in their home, lol. Actually, our house had a nicely wooded area in the back and we'd play out there for hours when school wasn't in session. Now, they've removed most of those trees to make room for more housing.

I can remember when state parks in California were free so it bugs me they charge. I seek out open beaches.

@johnroberts OH, that really bugs me too. When they were free I was too poor to take time off work to go and now most of them are so very expensive. But for over 62's the national forest camping is still free in many inland parks.
