Hot Stuff

Yesterday, in parts of our office the temperature reached 31 degrees celsius. This was despite the thermostats being set to 19 and an outside temperature of 11. The heating system in our building cost a fortune. It has heaters, it has chillers, it has air circulation, the whole shooting match. Yet still it could not switch off the heating when the temperature reached that set by the thermostats. Even the very simple system installed in my house can manage that. We have been told that if the problems with the system persist then we can forego the usual dress code rules and come into the office dressed more appropriately for the high temperatures. I just knew those PVC Speedo budgie smugglers would come in handy some day!

They should try to fix the problem, it's a matter of cost in addition to employees comfort. I wonder if someone wants to see you wearing those Speedo budgie smugglers... just a thought.

I just hate the fact that all our modern systems are so much worse than those used by the ancient builders of the middle east, for example. The place I last worked was like that but the opposite; in hot weather I could never wear any summer clothes as the place was always freezing and on days when I went to the shops at lunchtime I would be stared at by passers-by who were all dressed in shorts and skimpy tops.

Well yes, the converse is also true for us. You have to wear a jumper in the middle of summer. Can't be good for the immune system being subjected to such extremes.

since were tropical, we don't need heaters, but a government agency or private company where the airconditioning is even everywhere seems to be rare, too

Of course, working in an office with so many people, it's almost impossible to get it right for everyone but somewhere around 20 celsius usually suits most people.

To be fair it is slightly cooler today but still significantly warmer than it should be. I don't know why they can't just switch the system off completely to allow the building to cool down then put it back on again.

OK I'll admit it. I had to justify the cost of those PVC speedos otherwise my wife would never let me buy another pair.

@WorDazza Smart wife! Just turn the temperature a little higher and you won't need to buy anymore speedos.

It got to 36C outside today - our first really hot day for the season. I guess you're hoping the young shapely females in your office (do you have any of them?) will turn up in minimal gear. Is there a feminine version of budgie smugglers I wonder?
