I haven't signed up for it, but I know several people that say they have it. I've met them all online. But I never got to ask what the big deal is. So what is the big deal?

Gmail - Gmail - the best service today
I agree with you that gmail has the best service today. However, I am not very happy because gmail is monopolzing this business. That leaves them scope to misuse clients. Thanks for posting.:)
