I remember many years ago I was called to do a speech on someone important that had an impressionable outcome on my life and at the end of my speech, my English teacher said to me "Goodness me, you have gone a long way to find someone Important, but I love that you took us on the journey with you!" My speech was about Samuel Longhorne Clemens or better known to everyone by his pen name MARK TWAIN. "Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live." ~ Mark Twain As a young girl I loved to read Mark Twain's books and as I have gotten older in years, I have found such relevance to many of his famous quotes, that I find his words on the tip of my tongue and I quote them often. “Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile." To the many of you that read my posts, you will have noticed some of his wonderful and inspirational quotes: "When a man loves cats, I am his friend and comrade, without further introduction." ~ Mark Twain Good Morning Jessica @Jessicalynnt - Your beautiful inspiring postcard arrived in the week, so today its my first on the Agenda. The Mississippi River image with the lovely Show Boat has me singing "O'l man river" this morning, with Mark Twain Fanatics flashing back from my school days. I love it when something as simple as a picture can stir me this much - THANK YOU! I conclude with some more of the Mark Twain inspirations: "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails" "Explore . . . Dream . . . Discover" ~ Mark Twain Thank you to all the friends that send me well wishes while I was under the weather - your care and love is felt across the seas.

"Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow" My favourite Mark Twain quote and one by which I try and live my life!

@ison I will have to remember this. I always thought I was pretty cool when I said never do today what you can do tomorrow, But the day after sounds even more engaging.

Certainly Mark Twain had some really magical quotes. I really need to document some of them for future reference.

@Inlemay Oscar Wilde is another whose quotes always blow me away. He struck right at the heart.

That is a great picture and I am struggling to decide whether it is a photograph or a painting.

I think it 's a photograph - or it might be a photo of a painting

@Asylum @Inlemay I'd say it's a coloured photo. Black and white photos were coloured before coloured photography was invented.

I'm so pleased that you are feeling better Lany. You've come up with some more good quotes, and Paul Robeson was my mother's favourite.

Its a beautiful song. In high school we did the production of 'Showboat' and i was cast as a dimwitted saloon girl. So much nostalgia with just one little postcard

Have you read Mark Twain's travelogues about Germany? You can find such steamboats in Dresden in the south east of Germany going up and down the river Elbe for tourists.
