Drawstring Back Packs

I wasn't sure what I wanted to share today. Looking through my pictures I decided to share these drawstring backpacks that I got made at the quilt retreat.
These 2 bags are made for the quilt guilt and will go to a local charity called First Call for Help. They will put personals inside them such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and deodorant, and give them to those in need.
I had trouble with the instructions as I am a type of learner that needs to see in person, not read instructions. That's why I took the kits to the retreat as I knew I could get any help needed from the ladies there.
The first bag took me quite some time, and lots of questions to make sure I was doing the steps right, but the second bag was a breeze.
I am seriously thinking that these would make nice Christmas gifts this year. I first thought for the grandkids, but all 3 of my adult daughters have said they want one too.
I just got in from the garage where I finally cleared one of my work tables of yard sale stuff and brought it inside.
I have 2 large stacks of fabrics saved just for making bags.
I want to put the table out now and get out the fabrics, but I won't. First I will finish making these sets of microwave hot pads that I started yesterday.
Do you make your Christmas gifts? If so, what items are you making this year? Christmas will be here before we know it!

i'm with ya, paper instructions jest muddle me'p somethin' awful - thank goodness fer those youtube tutorials! those're really cute :) 'd make nice gift bags 's well. i'm glad ya donated some, always a need fer that kinda generosity.
i jest make schtuff 'n give't when 'tis completed. our family aint big' gift givin', but choose to stick with the true meanin' 'f the day. well, that aint entirely true, the eldest'n her family 'long with the youngest 're purty materialistic...fer the rest'f us though, we're jest tickled to be able to spend leisurely time together.

Great work. Good luck with your sewing. Those bags are really nice. I don't make any gifts. It's just hubby and me and our cat for Christmas and we don't exchange gifts just enjoy the holiday together.

I would like to make one for each shoebox. The pattern I have is lined, but I think once I have the size I will probably just wing it on making it.

oh, that is a great idea for the shoeboxes! I will have to think about that for next year. We could put the gifts in the box inside the bag then put the bag in the box.
We started filling what we could after church today with what people brought to donate and plan to shop Thursday for the rest of the items we need to fill the boxes.

These bags are lined. I have a huge stack of fabric to try to cut.

@LadyDuck I chose those kits because of the colorful fabrics. I'm not real sure what all is in my stash pile for bags since I've been building the pile for quite some time and haven't gotten around to cutting it. I'm glad now that I didn't because it would have been cut for different bags!

And still I sit trying to finish up the hotpads when I am chomping at the bit to get started on the bags. I have a LOT to make for gifts as now even some of the male adults have said they would want one too, but I also want to put some up for sale too.
If only I could just stay home all day every day.

Wow, those are beautiful! I think it's really sweet that you're giving them to charity, and I hope you're able to make your daughters one for Christmas. :)
And yeah, sometimes I need to learn something as I go rather than reading the instructions first.

Love your drawstring bags & I can see why everyone wants one. I'm looking for a project but not necessarily for Christmas

I'm still in hopes of finishing up these hotpads over the weekend so I can get fabrics out to start on the bags. I also want to make a special notebook cover for one of my grandsons. Wish me luck there.
