For those who do not know what black money is, it is something that is unaccounted, and on which no tax has been paid. Crime thrive on it. It is generated through corruption, and real estate industry is its fort knox in India. Even gold.
Now, coming to Narendra Modi he is the Indian Prime Minister.
There have been many things about him I have criticized in the past, like he did not take a stand when a Muslim guy was lynched for eating beef. I still feel he should have. I also felt he deliberately delayed laws on minor rapists, letting go of the guy who committed the crime as a minor, the famous December 16 case.
But I have to appreciate some of his moves. Surgical attacks were one, and so is recent demonitisation of 500 and 1000 INR notes.
He has cornered all the black money and wiped it out at one shot, even as the benaami transactions act has become effective on November 1, 2016. Now the benaami guys have nowhere to go, absolutely nowhere to go. lol.
I loved every bit of it, because I understand implications of it. There are going to be a lot of sops that will no longer be disbursed since they are not really needed. Times are changing.
That does not mean I will blindly say everything Modi does is good. It is policy by policy!!! I am not here to judge Modi...I am here to judge his policies, right?
So folks, now that there is no escaping Trump are you all going to judge him by his policies or what you feel about him based on whatever he spoke during his campaign?

As far as I am concerned since right now I don't live in the states I will wait and see what happens and hope he runs a tight ship and favors the people and what they need for a better life. I am also concerned about how he will react around the leaders of other countries. So time will tell.

This manner of speaking of a President.
After getting used to impeccable manners from our past Presidents, I suddenly found myself shocked by how our present President acts, worse, speaks. If I could only turn back the hands of time!
With this, I have no nerve to say anything against or for other Presidents.

Its a great move indeed, however it would be interesting to see how Indian government will stop generation of black money again when everything becomes normal.

I will judge him only by his actions as President. I don't care that JFK had many affairs. I dont care that Richard Nixon drank too much. I don't care that Bill Clinton received some oral favors under his desk. All I care about is how their actions affect national security, the economy, freedom of religion, women's rights, etc.

As I don't criticize Modi, can not say anything here.... except for that past event you mentioned.
Will see about Trump. Right now he hasn't even assumed the charges.

The demonetisation move's intent was good, but a lot unplanned. I would especially like to point that RBI did not anticipate the rush that the banks will face. They ought to have started using less of 500 and 1000s in circulation, and even started prinitng 2000 Rupees notes before the announcement.
Moreover, they could have started with a 15 day exchange window, then deposit and withdrawal, or gone bankwise.
I still see the queues persisting till Mid January and even beyond.
Of course, I do not appreciate over-panicky people who go to the ATMs every second/third day or those business owners who sent their entire Employee team to get notes exchanged or deposited and thus ensure that many other deserving people lose their chance.
I am still able to manage most of my expenses using electronic means, Paytm etc, but there are many guys who are finding it very difficult.
So, the move is good, but planning has left a lot to be desired.

Five years after demonetization, one has to wonder what good ever came out of it.
or one thing, most people in India do not even have abank account. They keep currency notes in their houses itself. Many such people have actually lost alot of their hard earned money.
So many people must have invested money in gold. So no problem for them either.
I do not feel the move affected even a single corrupt politician.
Neither can we say black money has ben reduced in the nation.
