A can of soda a day increases diabetes risks

I just read that a new study has found that drinking a can of sugared soda water daily can increase a person’s risk of developing pre-diabetes which may eventually lead to type 2 diabetes. In affluent societies like ours drinking sugared water is prevalent especially among the younger generation. These beverages taste great and are relatively inexpensive and so are very popular. The constant advertisements that appear on all sort of platforms entice even more people to get into this bad habit of reaching out for these beverages. I think an occasional bottle or a glass of sparkling sugared soda water may be alright. But the best drink is still filtered pure water. Are in the habit of reaching out for a bottle or can of your favourite soda water when you’re feeling thirsty?

@skysnap Agreed but many people even when they know it's bad for their health still cannot resist consuming them.

That's scary.. Luckily I don't have that habit. I usually drink mineral water whenever I feel thirsty..

I got into that habit for years when having a soda every day at lunch when I was working. That stopped with the job so now soda is occasional. I probably damaged myself.

@JohnRoberts Good for you. I think once you've stopped and there are no side effects your body should recover itself.

Definitely! You could have soda only once or twice a week. It is too much if everyday or every after meal.

@toaqua Yes, that's correct but some people have the habit of drinking soda with their meals. Imagine how much of the stuff they are taking!

@succeednow We did that for many years and recently got stopped when one got hospitalized and diagnosed with diabetes. All is fine now.
