Been feeling a bit lackluster

I've not been on Mylot much over the past week. I've been hobbling around with bad heel pain, which I suspect is the dreaded plantar fasciitis, the scourge of runners everywhere. I've been doing a lot of stretching and strengthening exercises and rolling my foot over a golf ball, which feels like an instrument of torture. I know there are no quick solutions for this, but I'm doing what I can. Perhaps I ought to be resting completely from running. My internet research has told me that 'gentle' jogging is probably better than none at all, as it helps strengthen the feet. But I shouldn't be trying to break speed records! (Fat chance of that! I think an asthmatic ant with a heavy bag of shopping could go faster than me right now.) On top of this, I caught my daughter's cold. Now, I never got colds, so tend to be like a bear with a sore head when I do. This one hasn't been too bad, as colds go, and I think my regular drinks of Rooibos tea with manuka honey and a squeeze of fresh lemon has maybe helped with the symptoms. I had a run this morning and felt like the most unfit blob on the planet, but I got through it and that's what I wanted to do. Now I can rest and take things easy. Hope you've all had a good start to the week

I had heel problems like that some years back. It got bad enough that I went to a Podiatrist who confirmed the diagnosis. He did plaster casts of my feet and made some orthotics inserts. I really felt that it would be a waste of time, but when I tried them out the pain was gone immediately and has not returned, though I don't use them all the time. They are a hard plastic but I never notice they are there.

I hope they have improved on those inserts. I had to have them and I couldn't run with them. They were so uncomfortable.

@celticeagle I have mine for probably 12 years now and they keep my heels feeling fine.

I was reading about these inserts earlier on. I think I'm going to give it a couple of weeks of rest and exercises and if nothing's improved, go and see the doc, try to find out what's going on.

I do not believe that what you read is correct. Give your feet a rest. Cut back on activities that make your foot hurt. Try putting ice on your heel. Do toe and calf stretches, but stop jogging for some days if you want to stop the pain.

Yes, I think I will have a proper rest now. I had one last run to do before I finished the Couch to 5K program, so was keen to get that out of the way. Now it's done I can relax for a bit.

I've felt a lot better today, thanks. Just have to be strict with myself now and not try to go back to running until my foot has healed.

Have you heard of 'epson salts'? This is something you can get at the pharmacy and it helps to take away pain. Soaking your feet in it might be of help. Echinacea and elderberry tea is good to strengthen your immune system too.

I bought some Epsom salts and have been adding them to my bath. They are good for general aching. I've also wondered whether I should be taking nutritional supplements given that I'm of the age when my bones are perhaps not as strong as they used to be.

@5thHouse ....Making sure you get calcium and such is good. There are some supplements out there for bone strength but they are rather expensive.

I'm sorry your feet are so sore. There is nothing worse than hobbling around.

The joys of running. I remember all the aches and niggles. I get them walking at a slow enough pace. Sorry to hear you also have a cold despite never getting colds. Manuka Honey. 12 quid a jar. Rooibos Tea and fresh lemon juice should help. If not go get a refund on the honey. Almost Wednesday now. The start of our week has been ok.
