Day 70
Proverbs 12:27
Proverbs 12:27 The slothful man roasts not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
How often do you procrastinate over something you know that needs to be done? You know the saying – Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Yet it still waits. The correct term is being lazy.
Solomon called it being slothful. He saw what hard work gained a person and the need of a person who didn’t do what was necessary to feed his family.
Today slothfulness is rewarded. It’s called Welfare. People do not feel the need to go out and get a job when they can just keep having children and let Welfare pay for their groceries, housing, and medical bills. There are people who legitimately need Welfare, but there are more people who don’t than do.
As Christians, you are told to do all you can to take care of the needs of your family.
1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Does that mean we are not to help the poor and needy? No, we are commanded to help them, if they are truly poor and needy and God has even set up a means for us to help them.
It is time for laziness to end and start taking care of your families and see to their needs. When you do, you will find God’s blessing on your lives and all your needs will be met.
Let’s pray: Father, help me not be lazy, but be diligent in everything that needs doing. Help me care for those who are truly needy, and show your love to everyone I meet. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
