Need Some Sweets When Feeling Down

As far back as I can remember, eating something sweet has always helped to perk me up a bit when I am feeling down. There must be something that goes to our brain when we eat something sweet and tell it that it's a good thing. Otherwise, why would I feel better when I eat the sweets? Are you inclined to act this way also?

I need dark chocolate when I feel down and there is a reason. Dark chocolate stimulates the production of endorphins and it also contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant.

I've found a dark choclat from Lindt that has 85% cocoa and another with 90%.. I guess you have them in your country too!

@LadyDuck I like the chocolate Lindt. Very popular here in Canada for gifts at Christmas time.

Yes, I feel good when I eat a sweet, especially chocolate. The problem is, I overdo it and once it leaves my mouth it causes health problems. If only I had better self-control! I'll keep working on t!

Those little guilty pleasures increase our endorphins and give us a smile. I must say that I am the same way!

@marlina Well I guess I don't feel guilty about them. I have noticed that since I have gotten older my sweet tooth has toned down quite a bit.

That's because it is said that chocolates contain tryptophan , a chemical that causes the release of serotonin , a mood lifter , into our brains . I also would eat chocolate when i feel down .

Yes, I am the same way and I've heard it's true that our bodies respond positively to something sweet. I guess that's one reason Halloween is such a beloved holiday! lol

We can train our taste buds to less and less sugar and it is worth it, as sugar is acidic, and cancer cells love acidic food.. I mix coconut oil with cocoa and perhaps Stevia,( it is not necessary)and eat it as it is or with a LITTLE 70% choclate

I am a chocoholic. I also have severe depression. The sweet chocolates do help. It's all in the anandamide it has in it. Here's a article about it:

Basically, it's the sugar in them. A sugar rush or a sugar high. And yes, I find a packet of sweets (and a fun book) help pick me up.

Someone told me once that chocolate is the best antidepressive. Its taste gives us a special feeling of happiness which turns our negative mind to a positive one. There may be something right on it.
