Mickey Hole

Some of you might remember me talking about Dominic, a little boy my sister and brother-in-law recently took in from foster care. They have a 5 year old girl, Amyra, whom they also adopted out of foster care. She was nine months before she even left the hospital, and that's pretty much the same age Dominic is right now. Amyra's health problems were different than Dominic's, but one thing they have/had in common is a mickey hole. To simplify it, it's a hole in the stomach that when it's time to for food, they attach a tube to the hole, and slowly allow the food to be transferred to his stomach. He currently has a trachea tube so he can't eat the traditional way.
Unlike it was for Amyra, Dominic is especially sensitive to the mickey hole. It's bothering him, and he was crying non stop. My sister and brother-in-law (along with Amyra because two adults have to be present at all times when driving Dominic anywhere) took him to the ER one night, and he's been in the hospital since late last week. They have taken turns on staying there with him, trading night shifts and day shifts.
I texted her about him today and she says he's better. They were going to do something different for him this past Friday, but they couldn't find an anesthesiologist to do the procedure. On the plus side, Amyra has been a trooper. She's been as helpful as any little child could possibly be.

What a busy family! How are Amyra's health problems now that she's a little older?

All she has is occasional physical therapy. She won't walk with her heels on the ground so they do exercises to get her used to it. Because she was premature and on oxygen for so long she is susceptible to respiratory issues, but she's been fine for over a year: no colds or anything.
She's a walking miracle.

@AmbiePam That's awesome! Glad to hear it. Most premies do have problems such as respiratory issues.
