Christmas Commercials

I'm watching these commercials and all the gift ideas companies are suggesting we buy for gifts. Smart Phones, X Boxes, televisions, even cars. Honestly, how much money do they expect that we have to spend on Christmas gifts? We're looking into new iPhones for all four of us as Christmas gifts. These are $0 plus hook-up charges. After that, just small stocking stuffer type items. But then there are the outside family members I have to buy for. I don't have the money and Christmas is closing in quickly. These gift ideas advertised on television are pretty ridiculous!

Oh, I think companies expect us to have a ton of money for Christmas. -Smh- They forget that some of us are on a budget. Do you have a Five Below near you? I don't know what your outside family is into, but you may find something for them there; nothing is over $5.

@tammys85 No, I've never heard of Five Below. Our cell phones are all dying so hubby ordered a new one for each of us so gifts will be minimal and probably cell phone extras like phone covers. As for the commercials... who really gives cars and thousands of dollars worth of electronics for Christmas presents? It's unrealistic.

@patgalca Oooh, look it up and see if you have any near you. I hope you do! You can also order offline with them (which they must have recently started). Right? My late Daddy used to try to do big gifts, but that's one big gift and then smaller stuff, not tons of big gifts only. But big gifts didn't always mean electronics. I once had the choice between a laptop and Annie (the musical) tickets.... plot twist - I chose the tickets. No regrets lol.

I agree that some of the gift ideas are ridiculous. I don't care much about having the newest iPhone or gaming system. Just give me books and candy as a gift and I'm happy.

I decided a few years ago that if three gifts were enough for baby Jesus, three was enough for our family. Now that most of them are grown and are bessed to have mostly what they need and want, I usually give a gift card, some cash and something personal. Of course, we still have a big dinner on Christmas Eve with lots of yummy foods.

@1creekgirl I don't know. For me, holidays are always a depressing time for me. Christmas Eve is my little family time which includes going to church, and dinner with the girls' boyfriends. Christmas morning is nice but it's the time leading up to it that is hard on me.

Yeah I already have my gifts. I only buy for two people. This year for my fiance I didn't have to buy him anything. I'm giving him some books I own.

@JESSY3236 My husband is really hard to buy for. I've been telling him for a couple of years that we really need new smoke detectors. He doesn't think so. Well, that's what he's getting for Christmas.

@JESSY3236 My husband doesn't read at all. If it's not golf, he's not interested. He has way more golf items and clothes than he needs.

@patgalca lol. Chris is sometimes hard to buy for too. But I knew he had been reading on The Stand, and I knew he might like these books that my mother actually left here.

@clai101 Though it is a lot about the money, it is also about the time and effort and "what do I buy?" Christmas is more depressing for me.

@patgalca Christmas is also depressing for me because this is gonna be my first Christmas without my dad, lost him in June 2016 while my brother is jailed and my husband is far. So there's nothing special about it.

I donĀ“t even have the money to buy one iPhone for myself. I make jams to give away for Christmas. And long for the time when people sang Christmas carols and the day was about being together and love.

We only buy very simple gifts, just to remember and be remembered, it's not a matter to be ruined to buy things.

I don't know anyone who buys these sorts of presents but I guess some do. We keep Christmas very simple - thank goodness.

Commercials are made to attract buyers. If you'll get hooked, then, they will surely rejoice...

@magallon All they get is a bunch of irritated parents who have children seeing those commercials and begging for outrageous gifts.
