What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid?

I just took a hike in Tilden Park with a friend from work. We discussed everything from our clients to politics, but at one point, our conversation was about cereal. I can't remember why. He said something about "you know, the one with the rabbit," and I said, "Oh, Trix are for kids! That was one of my favorites!" He said that one of his was Cap'n Crunch, but I told him that it always ticked me me off how quickly it got soggy in milk, when the ads said otherwise. Finally we got to lucky Charms, and the fact that there is are words in the English language to describe the the consistency of the petrified colored marshmallows in that cereal. The sad thing is, now I want some Trix! I've been bored lately with my Trader Joe's Corn Flakes, healthy though they may be. Safeway, here I come! Did you have a favorite cereal when you were little? Do my Trix even still exist?

We did not have cereals in my country when I was a girl. Our breakfast was with bread, eggs, cheese, butter and or ham. Once in a while my mother made quaker oats and I loathed them.

@TheHorse Maybe it´s because they aren´t good! I make and like quaker oat cookies. But that gooey thing my mom wanted me to eat was not edible.

@TheHorse I have always liked oatmeal a lot and still do. I like to add some dried cranberries or golden raisins and a little brown sugar.

I never ate those cereals you mention when I was a kid. I either had Cheerios or oatmeal. Or my grandmother fixed me toast in warm milk. I love Honey Nut Cheerios to this day. Oh, and Puffed Rice too.

Honey Nut Cheerios is one of default cereals as well. The Trader Joe's version isn't quite as good as the regular stuff, but it's OK.

We did not have cereals in Italy when I was a kid. Those big Kellogg's corn flakes boxes came later and they were the only available for many years.

@TheHorse NO, not for the cereals, but I remember a horrible sweet thing that was called "Buondì Motta". It was a sort of croissant topped with granulated sugar that was proposed for the kids breakfast. I never wanted that thing. I have found a vintage photo.

It's strange what subjects conversations can lead to. Very bizarre sometimes. I was never much of a one for cereals but I guess cornflakes and vitabrits/weetbix were good. Later I liked Just Right which was touted as healthy but actually has a whole heap of sugar in it. And the latest has been oatmeal microwaved with milk and a bit of sugar.

I've never heard of those early ones! I adjusted to my parents torturing me with "cream of wheat" and "oatmeal" by putting lots of milk and brown sugar on both (I actually liked them).

@TheHorse Well, I was in Australia and I'm older than you. Vince was never allowed Vita-brits (or maybe it was Weetbix) because whichever one it was was made by Sanitorium which his parents believed were a 7th Day Adventist mob and they were staunch Catholics.

@TheHorse Had to check but yes porridge is oatmeal Just for your information porridge is also used to refer to a term in prison in the UK Gruel is an old term which sort of means porridge but gruel is less thick than porridge and can also have other ingredients. I had to look a few things up and this post reminded me to have my own attempt at pottage sometime

I don't remember Staxx. But I remember...was it Honeycomb? And I remember all of the Chex. Wheat Chex were pretty cool. But they all were sag city if you didn't pour your milk in first and add bits of cereal between bites.
