A tablet or a smartphone?

I bought this cellular phone just about three weeks ago and I lost it just two days ago. It was my mistake to have placed it somewhere and then forgot about picking it up.
Now I will have to buy another one. I wonder what can be better a smart phone or a tablet since I do a lot of reading.
I know that there are tablets that can function as a phone. One of these devices is going to be my next purchase.
DO you have a tablet that can also allow you to make phone calls?

With Skype, you can basically use any of these devices as phones as well. It's just all about your size preference. But being that both are small and compact, you might just want to stick with a cellular phone. But on the other hand, if you want a larger screen to read on and don't need to make calls often, then the tablet route may be better for you.

@quantum2020 I assume you live in Mexico. If so, it looks like you can still use skype for local call I think you will have to buy credits, which seem pretty reasonably priced.

@multimastery I´m not sure because I have never tried to use skype for local calls. I will need to investigate about making local calls using skype. It would be great if that is pósible. I won´t have to worry about buying a smartphone, but only a good tablet

That sounds llike a good tablet. I have found a variety of tablets with integrated phone capability. Now, I would like to find one with a high resoltuin for taking pictures and video.
What I want from this tablet is to be able to read and take video and pics

Aside from size, the major thing that separates tablets and phones is that tablets cannot make calls.
You'll probably want a phone that has a screen that's around 5 inches or more; those are generally better suited to reading than smaller phones. I've found that my BLU R1 HD is excellent for reading Kindle books.

I haven´t come across a smartphone with those characteristics yet. I will have to look for one. In the meantime, my perspective is on a tablet. If I find a smartphone with a bigger screen, I might consider it instead of a tablet

That was a good deal that you got for replacement. I will have to buy mine for over $100 dollars here. That ´s they cost.

@quantum2020 Yeah it was. And perfect for my budget. The others were a bit higher from $20 to $250. I did have to pay for 3-months of airtime for $18. YIKES!
