When you buy things like that it only means one thing, it's only a small percentage of how much more you really have in assets and cash.
Its comparable to us spending on an expensive gadget that we really like or eating at an expensive restaurant perhaps not even, might just be loose change to them, it's hard to fathom cause we are not on their plain level, poor us!

A rich collector likely purchased it.

The money goes to whoever owned the dress.

@therealmaryyy Probably a collector or investor owned the dress and decided to turn a profit. The dress will likely be auctioned again in the future.

The money would go to the rightful legal heir or heirs or owner and a percentage would go to the auction house

@therealmaryyy I think they usually keep these things a secret for reasons unknown

I do wonder what people do with such items. The other day I heard that Nic Cage paid millions for a dinosaur artifact and wondered if I was rich whether I'd be able to justify buying such things if it is only for personal pleasure or whether I'd want to do something else with the money like invest in businesses or communities or help charities.
