Soap And Pineapple On My Mind

I've been looking at blogs, pictures and videos of an easy pineapple cake recipe using just a box of angle food cake mix and a can of crushed pineapples. I've also looked up how to melt and make a new bar of soap from small leftover pieces. Where do you use canned pineapples? How do you recycle bits of bath soap?

Those small leftover bits of bath soaps drive me crazy... Others in my household just open a new one as soon as the used one is like less than half its original size... I'm the only one who keeps using it till the end, so it's like I never know how it feels to use a brand new bar of soap... And I know you meant angel food cake mix...

maybe because your menfolk all have big hands so the soap slips out? hehe. you're right, i mistyped it as angle. so, would you try baking it, too?

@hereandthere Baking what, the soap or the pineapple? The soap sounds like a nice idea, but I'll pass and just use them until I can't stand them anymore then chuck it in the bin. The pineapple sounds easy enough, so I might just try it one day.

@sishy7 i'm more inclined to try the pineapple cake. i've also seen instructions how to make soap bits into liquid soap.

I like your simple plan for cake mix and pineapple fast and easy. I make pineapple muffins. I like making new soap bars, as don't like to throw anything away.

@hereandthere yes that is how I was shown the first time. It does take time and now my college age daughter has taken over the soap making.

it was amazing to see blogs, pictures and videos of how to make the 2-ingredient pineapple cake. i might use muffin pans or loaf pans when i finally decide to make it. do you melt your soap in a pan on the stove?

I try to buy fresh pineapples, but it is a hit or miss for it to be a good one. So when I absolutely need it to be good, I use the canned. I don't buy it a lot, but I have used it in a fruit salad, or for skewering with meat for shish kabobs. Bath soap - we only have bar soap at the bathroom sink - and that's only if anyone wants to use it - we all use the liquid soaps. So a bar of soap will last a long, long time that we don't even get to the point of a small bit .

I am hungry at the moment and pineapple cake sounds so nice. I make an ice-cream topping using crushed pineapple, mandarin segments and a spoonful of marmalade. You drain the mandarin segments then thicken the mixture with cornflour.

the blogs and videos make non-bakers like me want to try it because it's so simple and easy. so you put cornstarch in the mandarin juice to thicken it first, then add the crushed pineapple, mandarin segments and spoonful of marmalade?

@hereandthere Yes, that's it. The mandarins and pineapple are small cans. Drain the mandarins, stir in 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch then add pineapple, 2 tablespoons of marmalade and 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger. Bring to the boil and stir till thickened then add mandarin segments.

Its not the season of pineapple so I think the most convenient to provide the pineapple are the one in can. About bath soap, I don't know how to do it, but what I do is to water them in the plants.

My mother-in-law always would put in a small container all the small left-overs of the soaps and it has been there for years already . They're actually begining to darken .

@hereandthere Oh that's a nice idea indeed . I will tell my MIL to do that with those left-over soaps and put it in the laundry area for the laundrywoman to use for washing the rags .

I sometimes use it for cooking chicken curry; or as a dessert itself; for bath soap, I stick (press) the small pieces together; when dried up, they form a bigger soap which can be used as handsoap.

pineapple in chicken curry sounds good! my father used to do that with the small pieces of soap so it ends up multicolored.

I thought you had Soap Pen and Pineapple Pen... To answer your questions, I use canned pineapples in salads and its juice as meat marinade... I don't recycle bits of soap. When they're too thin for me, I get a new one. However, I've seen my family combine small bits of soap...

@hereandthere You can marinate meat in them overnight. It really helps make the meat tender and sweet. ;) Here's a tip: If you want ham this Christmas (that is, if you eat pork), buy a decent cut and marinate it for less than a week in a freezer... :)

Hehehehe @hereandthere I don't recycle my soap bath, if they are thin I will just throw them away. Sometimes I am guilty of doing so but I am lazy to recycle them. Pineapples? I used them on food. Pata Tim, I love it with pineapples.

I don't have the skill set for either of these things. Certainly, I like anything with pineapples, but not to attempt a cake. The soap ends I throw away. Too much trouble to try and recycle it. Sorry, as much as I like to develop my skills, I do like the comforts of my supermarket too.

I grill the canned pineapple slices and serve them with baked ham. For what concern soap leftover, I chop the pieces. I melt the pieces in hot water and stir until melted. Then I pour the melted soap in molds, I cover with plastic wrap and I let them dry 24 hours. So you have new soaps from old leftovers.
