Liking a response is not enough.

So many times, when I go back to a post I have responded, I only see the click with a "like" sign. I imagine those are the mylotters that spend a lot of time at FB.
Facebook is something that is not the kind of site I like to relate to people. You mostly say you like something or that you don´t like it. And then, as some of my grandchildren do, they start responding with "lol", "imao" and other letters that aren´´t what I´d call full of meaning.
I wonder, will we lose the ability to talk? How soon? Will we someday reach the state of our great grandmother Lucy?
Our forefathers worked during a long time to discover language. How long will it take us to lose it? Is it a "lol" or a "thumb down"?
Just remember that interacting is not "liking" a response. This site need people who think.

However sometimes it gets to the point where we cannot respond anymore to the responses.

This is so true. At some point the discussion comes to an end.

@Happy2BeMe Yes, some discussions last longer, some shorter - but as a final ending point, I will "like" to notify the person I've read it.
But personally for myself I disabled likes so I won't know if the person liked it until I come back see. For instance my response was liked from 2 other members - I see it now only.

@infatuatedbby Oh ok. That does make sense because the notifications are really add up with all the likes.

That is a little unfair though. People like showing that they have no words, but they came to your post anyway. That is how we show that we care. If people want to respond they respond. We will never lose the ability to talk, if something is interesting enough, people will talk. If someone just liked something, that means that it is simply agreeing and no need to say anything. Also, some people like posts to follow what is going on, to go back later to get a chance to respond, some people don't do that but I know a few that do. People will talk if they feel like they need to.

@DesirousDreamer Yes to that, but it has to be something you don´t do all the time. If I invite to my house to a party a person that will be all evening with a vacant smile while the others converse about different topics, I don´t invite him/her again.

If I agree, I say that I agree. I don´t know why we should be afraid of using words.

@marguicha But, some people just don't feel the need to. Say if it is something on here, you are reading something that you have no relation to, you enjoyed the post but had no words for it...what do you do, you like the post showing you have read it and move on. It gives attention to the post.

I merely "like" to how that I read the post. I would prefer also a "read" button. Yes, MyLot is not FB. Here we interact. I like this place much more than FB. MyLot is exercise for the brain.

I agree with you. I prefer myLot to FB any day. I also like things just to let people know that I read their discussion. I don't always have something to say on the topic.

And yet, sometimes it IS enough ... on Facebook. If members here think they GET PAID for 'just liking' a full post, I'm not sure how they see that on the earning-program FAQ.
But MAYBE YOU GET PAID (a little) when someone 'like's your writing!
And there is a trick-or-two to getting people to interact on your posts. The one that I'm thinking-of is 'asking a question' (either in your text or in its title/subject-line).
Do you know any interaction-tricks?

I think that a question is a nice "trick". Is the same trick we use when we are at a party in our houses.

I try to comment if possible. They should have a thumbs down but then again they shouldn't.

Maybe a dissenting comment is the option to a thumb down.

we used to have a -button as well as a + on here but it was heavily abused and as it was linked to earnings it was unfair.

Sometimes the answer closes the dialog so as to say. But I guess we can always say something.

@JudyEv I seek your posts because they mean something to me and they teach me things many times. I think your effort deserves more than a happy face (emoticon)

@marguicha I don't feel obliged to keep the conversation going once it has been 'closed'. But I always reply to everyone's first response.

I think this might not be "FB-effect" for some people. There are just some people who don't "talk" much. I remember when I was having long distance relationship with my boyfriend (now husband), we could only use text chat back in those days as it's less expensive way to communicate. There were many times I expected him to respond, but he did not, as he thought there was nothing for him to respond. So I just requested him to at least write something like "noted", so I know he read that. So I think there are someone who do not respond much, or some comments that hardly respond to.
But I agree with you, I like interaction!

My husband was not the kind of person that talked a lot, but when he had to expresss his ideas, he talked.

Some of the letters used on Facebook are confusing for me. Its not something I grew up with hearing and anyone that follows my posts knows I normally have something to say when I'm typing a response. My Facebook has few people on it, as when I add must have something I would discuss and if they are going to use letters, then the response better not be for me. I tend to have people that live a healthy lifestyle giving me advice on how I can be healthier and make better baking choices.

The only way to discuss anything, be it politics or how to make lentils is to use our normal vocabulary.

There are some posts That I read and have nothing to say in reply. Usually, unless they are very interesting, I don´t "like" them.

I don´t usually give my ideas in politics or religion. But I read them. Still I don´t say I like them in those cases unless they are interesting.

Interacting is very essential, I do agree. But I also don't think a "lol"s and "lmao"s are a threat to language as well. The way we interact might change with generations still the emotions behind it remains the same. That, in my opinion, is the one that counts.

I don´t mind emoticons or lols and the like. But that must be an adition to an idea expressed in words.
