Writing, writing, writing...why? Hope.

As I sit here and try to write in my novel that I have been working on for let's just say forever, I keep wondering to myself why I do it. I don't think I am the best writer ever. I often wonder if anyone will even like it or trash it to bits or if anyone will even relate to it? When I do finish it and try to get it out there for the world to see, this is what keeps me going. Yes I do it because it is relaxing and fun for me as well, but even if I like it myself, doesn't mean anyone else will. But I guess I fear that the most, that this is just a waste of my time and when I die, it will just BE and not be of any use to anyone. I know it sounds a little depressing, but I read something on Edgar Allen Poe who didn't even become famous until after his death because he was a bit crazy and no one took him seriously because of his depression and alcoholism. No I do not have an alcohol problem and I don't have severe depression, but it saddens me to think that so many writers out there won't get any recognition possibly until after they are gone. I hope to never be one. I do hope something of mine that I have written makes someone smile or actually think. That little glimmer of hope keeps me writing.

It's like a dream. When a writer has a book in their head it has to get out onto paper. Become alive. Don't you think? And it is a great way to communicate how we look at the world.

Enjoy what you are doing. People have different topics they wish to read and there are so many authors. The current topic should be Trump of Hilary Clinton and this will distract readers. Good luck

I don't care for politics too much so you probably won't see me post about it lol.

I’m trying to compartmentalize. It sounds simplistic but there is writing, there is reading, there editing and there is publishing. Yes often all those things merge together. But I’m attempting to keep them separate for the reason you have expressed concern about. I’m just glad I found your post so I can read how someone else might have the same thoughts as I do. Why?

I'm glad my post can resignate with someone else too lol. Glad I'm not the only one with these feelings.

@DanieGirl80587 I spend time writing. I'm hoping it has some value and it may who knows. But I feel writing on this site can often be a time waster.

Don't worry. There is an audience for all kinds of books and all kinds of stories. There will be some for you too.

I am writing novel myself but it`s in Russian only,as i am not that strong in English Sometimes i feel the same, but one thing I know persistance is rewarded,so don`t give up. And nowadays publishers are not really needed, You can publish and promote your book on Amazon. All the best
