I needed a Tree Skirt!

The tree is up.....or maybe I should say, Three trees are up.
The one in the living room is about 6.5 feet tall and is our formal tree. Then a tiny little two foot tree is in the sitting room. The lights are battery powered and we refer to it as our Charly Brown tree.
When I was digging for my Christmas garland, I ran across the tree we had for the store. It was prelit, so I didn't need lights for it. Then I had two packages of turquoise ornaments.....hmmmm...what to do with this tree.
It is only about three feet tall, so we put it on a small table in my back entryway. My daughter and I tied the tree to the table so the grandchildren should not be able to bump it and knock it over.
Now we had the ribbon and base to hide. I looked at the store but nothing would match the decor on the tree unless I wanted to spend a great deal of money......that wasn't happening.
I opened my fabric cupboard and pulled out a couple of pieces and made my own. Another quick easy project finished.

@Morleyhunt i see. it's still a great spot to hear what's going on while half your mind is in a book, or even just to close your eyes but ears open.

We have a small room between the kitchen and the living room. I will sit in that room to read. It has no practical use because all traffic passes through.

That tree skirt is beautiful! I can't wait to put up our tree! We have to wait until we move into the new house on Dec. 1st. =)

It's good that you know how to sew. It's really an advantage when you know how to . That's a cute one that you made .

Using the sewing machine is a handy skill. I use mine all the time.

@SIMPLYD time and practice. I was once part of a ladies sewing group......they told me the only reason I could make such nice clothing was because I had a fancy sewing machine. I set out to disprove that theory. I made three identical children's track suits. One I did using my fancy sewing machine and serger, the next I made using my regular sewing machine (straight and zigzag stitches), the third was made on my antique treadle (straight stitch only) machine. They all looked the same on the outside, they were all finished neatly, although differently on the inside.

Practice has made sewing easy. My teacher would have told you I was the least likely student to sew another stitch.

There are no plans to sell this. I do have other sewing projects I'm trying to finish.

It works well with the tree decorations. The tree doesn't match the room at all.

Thank you. I couldn't find what I wanted. The colours were just wrong.

@Morleyhunt All the tree skirts I see in the stores are red or green.

@LadyDuck that was what I found as well. All the ornaments on this tree are a turquoise or silver colour so I thought a turquoise tree skirt was just what it needed. To bad it doesn't really match my purple decor in the entryway.....maybe for next year I'll make cushion covers and curtains to hang just for the Christmas season.

@Morleyhunt i purge, the hubs hauls more schtuff indoors. 'f course he blames me fer the antique singer, claims he'd such well protected out'n the barn. if'n i could get him to take his momma's china o'er to mamaws lil house, i could put the sewin' machine/table plus my big wooden rocker'n my sewin' room. i dunno why i keep callin' 't such?? he continuously takes o'er e'ery spot i claim 's my own. sigh... i'm still marvelin' o'er ya puttin' 3 trees 'p 't'cher place!

It took some clearing and sorting....and purging, but I found a space for not one, but three trees.

@Morleyhunt My sister is a sewer and a quilter, I am always in awe of her finished projects and my tree skirt is an awesome piece of art she made for me years ago. I will get a photo when we set up our tree to share here on myLot.

@PainsOnSlate I'll look forward to seeing it. The one I made is small..no more than 20 inches across and really ver simple.

It nearly makes me weep to know you need a tree skirt and you just whip up such a lovely one from scraps!

You should see the mistake I made. I decided to make it reversible....cut out and assembled a second one....oops, I forgot to add seam allowances.....back to the drawing board.....il turn that into a table topper.

@Morleyhunt Sorry but I'm a tiny bit pleased that you're not perfect! And your table topper reminds me of people making a table but can't get it stable and keep cutting bits of legs till they end up with a coffee table.

Thank you. Small projects that come together quickly make a nice change from projects that take months to complete.

I like that tree skirt. I have no talent to make anything. So you are lucky.

Luckily I can sew....don't ask me to arrange flowers. For some reason that skill evades me.

Thanks. It was a fun little project. It took longer to make than it should have when I mis cut the lining.
