Using top level domain.

Hi I see many blogs using top level domains. But I am using free domains for my blogger blog. Does it make any difference. I mean what use to have top domains. For traffic or what reason. For that I can also have word press. I am only blogging for fun. Yes I think it looks more professional. What is your view for that I can use templates also.
