And, before I turn in for the night after a long day (a five-hour drive total, down and back to and from Nashville, and worth every mile!) I need to continue with my look at my favorite songs with "honky tonk" in the title. Surrounded by all of those Hank Williams posters and plaques today you'd think you'd have some honky tonkin', huh? Not today! Here's the next song.
#8: Honky Tonkers Don't Cry - Dale Watson
It's my main man, Dale Watson, singing the country music equivalent of "there's no crying in baseball." The happy, upbeat music underscores the fact that "crying in a beer is commonplace around here," although once the crowd gathers, the music starts, and the dancers hit the hardwood floors, "we have to have a good time even when we feel down."
Earlier this year a friend of mine from Chicago, whom I met at a Hoyle Brothers concert (and danced with to their version of "I Lie When I Drink"), did a road trip in my neck of the woods with his wife for some Dale concerts. Every night he requested that Dale sing this song, given that they were having some family issues. He obliged them every night.
When the sun goes down nobody's wearing a frown!

Just as shocked as the use of a song Robbie Fulks co-wrote earlier?
