Facebook competitions - do people not read?

I have a few people who I am friends with on Facebook and I am convinced that they can't read when it comes to Facebook competitions. They get so excited at the idea of liking and sharing something that they don't seem to think things through. The possibility of winning something small (worth maybe £10 or so) but is located somewhere miles away and winner has to collect? Old competitions that seem to get shared over and over again? Or the obvious scams that are shared constantly - do people seriously think they will win dream holidays or a brand new Range Rover?
One page I follow posts again and again about some of the scams from places that look authentic but are actually scams and even when they post about these being a scam, people share the picture and are trying to win same prize even though it says scam all over it?
What is it about Facebook competitions that people seem to lose all sense of reality?

I believe this time of the year is the worst for it to. I have an aunt who posts these "free daily sweeps" things all the time. Her heart is in the right place, but she just doesn't seem to get that all the things she posts are scam or one in a million off chance type things.
