The Dent In My Couch

I have a dilemma that maybe someone can help me resolve. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and we have 3 beautiful children. Every night he comes home from work takes a shower eats dinner and sits in front of the TV and almost INSTANTLY fall asleep. The TV stays one and the snoring begins. After hours of sleeping in the sofa I have to wake him up and ask him go upstairs and if I don’t he’ll stay asleep in the sofa to only wake in the middle of the night. Year after year this goes on and it’s frustrating only because he manages to put a dent in the sofas. We have purchased so many sofas that I already lost count. When I complain and tell him that he is ruining my furniture it causes an argument that ends in us not talking for days, Can someone please give me some constructive advice and help me make this man understand that the sofa was not made for sleeping. Lastly once someone can help me resolve this issue I hope to see you all at the top!

@amitkokiladity, this usually happens when he comes home from work he does spend time with us on weekends and we do go out as a family a lot. We also try to make it to all our children's games, sports, schools, recitals, etc... We also go on dates as a couple and spend time together as a family. Also I must admit that our schedule can be a bit overwhelming since I do real estate and he drives trucks and is a fireman as well. But this situation like I mentioned before has been happening since day one so I'm not sure how to handle it and it is frustrating for me since I don't like the fact that he sleeps on the sofas all the time.

Just curious and apologies incase I offend you.... is this a dent in the sofa or in the love that you guys have shared over these years....I think you are looking for a solution on the banks of the river while it lies at the bottom of the river.... Just give it a though and talk it put.... I believe this happens to a lot of married people who love each other but daily routines get the food of them mm. ...
The sofa dent will slowly fade off.... don't worry....
Keep shining and sharing.... :)

@Magicweaver1 No apologies needed and I thank you for your point of view, I don't think that's the case here only because he has been doing this since day one. Unfortunately, at first I thought it was a temporary issue but as the years has passed it has become tiring and frustrating when I have to be the one to wake him up and shut off the TV or even worse when we have to purchase new furniture. We have had our share of arguments and all but at the end of the day his actions of being a loving husband and amazing father is there.

Sorry can't help you on the advice coz I love sleeping in the sofa too. I remember my mom loved seeing in her couch as well. I don't know why it's so comfortable to be just in there.

Maybe buy a more expensive sofa which doesn't get so easily squished? I would be concerned at the amount of time he sleeps ... perhaps he needs to go to the doctor for a check up.

@poppylicious, We have had many sofas from Ikea,to Ashley's, to Italian sofas and even Horchow. We have spend thousand of dollars on furniture through out the years and nothing seems to help. Also because of his career he must get a physical every year and everything is fine (Thank God) but you are right there is a concern at the amount of times he does this. It's often and at some point I thought he was doing this just to hear me go off. But as the years passed I have come to the conclusion that it might just be a bad habit. What do you think?

@Millionairemindset That sound like it has become his habit to sleep on sofas then. But if you cannot break this habit of his, inspite and despite of talking it out with him, why not join him? I mean, if i were you i would not mind buying new sofas every now and then if you both enjoyed from it.

@Yadah04 lol, rotf I think I would go crazy and then my kids might also pick up this bad habit. I don't think I would be able to deal with that and it might cause the problem to get bigger.

Perhaps you need to buy a sofa that IS made for sleeping on. Does he have sleep apnoea perhaps if he is sleeping so much?

I don't think it's sleep apnea but rather a bad habit he learned from childhood. I can't seem to brake him out of this bad cycle and having to purchase furniture because of this is frustrating and expensive.
