A Very Humbling Experience

Saw an elderly man selling ripe bananas yesterday while we were looking for a specific restaurant to eat lunch. He looked so old. I paused and looked at his basket which was fortunately empty already so I supposed he had sold all except for the bunch of bananas his holding. I asked him how much were the bananas and in a tired voice he said "I'll give this for 2 bucks" My girlfriend hesitated and signaled no because we're going to a restaurant and the bananas were not put in a plastic bag. How can I say not to this elderly man, he looked tired and I want him to go home already and rest so I said "of course, I will buy all of it". He danced in delight, can you imagine that? That was a very humbling experience for me. Very humbling.

That was really a nice thing you did Nothing beats making another person happy.. the old man probably did sell most of the bananas, but I am sure he is very happy that he sold all of them. Over here in my neighborhood, there is this young man that likes to buy from street peddlers - but he doesn't take the goods.. he then asks the peddlers to give them away to other people..

Thanks! I agree with what you said. It is indeed good to make others happy. He made me happy too because those bananas were so delicious plus in a very low price only.

Sometimes, what is a very small thing to us means a great deal to someone else. I'm so pleased you bought the bananas. You might have felt humbled but I'm sure you also felt very pleased that you had helped him so much.

I did. It was a very good feeling to help and I realized many things in life and I am more thankful of everything that I have right now.

That's right. Especially to those people who are suppose to enjoy their old age not to look for money to survive.

I don't think so. There are so many cases and news all around the world where the elderly are treated poorly or harshly.

that was super sweet of you! So where did you keep the bananas in the restaurant? Did they let you take it in?
