Was looking to contact a former someone l knew online some time ago(not too long ago). After looking for weeks,l managed to find him through his new website.(worst idea from me in a very long time). When l went to the site,a popup appeared, l did not read or check it,just clicked to close as l do with all pop-ups.My computer froze with some message l don't remember repeating again and again. I rebooted my laptop but l could not even get to google, trying to open any page brought X amounts of popups that were impossible to close. I had a guy look my computer over but l still feel it`s not enough, somehow l feel things are not back to normal or let`s say it`s made me feel vulnerable as im NIL in technical matters. I was only trying to reach a member/friend who l thought was/is struggling,it ended messing up my computer and costing me money to have it checked out. Learned the hard way to let things be sometimes.

Having effective AV is essential on the net. What did you have?

@miniam I'm quite surprised you had virus issues with that level of protection as from what I know McAfee is a paid service after the initial trial expires on a new computer. maybe even going to the site triggered something

I use Avast Antivirus and Firewall, it saved me two months ago, a site was doing the same to me, but it blocked the page. I was able to scan using Avast and got rid of this "redirect virus". If you can boot your computer and you have the Malwarebytes antivirus (it is free), it also cleans up this kind of virus.

Get a good antivirus and consider a paid version of MalwareBytes or something similar. It removed a very nasty virus from my system in time to keep it from crashing.
