Strawless Wednesday And Plastic Utensils For Takeout

I've experienced this at KFC and Chowking. On the times I ate there on a Wednesday, you don't see any straws around and they explain that it's Strawless Wednesday. I just don't know if it's followed by all branches, or it depends on the franchisee. I also don't know if other local or international food chains here do the same. I remember one mylotter who said when she orders food for takeout, she declines the plastic spoons and forks since she will be eating it at home and use her own utensils. Maybe it won't help much, but I think they're still worth doing.

I guess they want people to attempt using alternatives to plastic...rather than to ban all plastic in one go.

Maybe they want to minimize their waste made of plastics, being earth friendly

the plastic spoons we get from these food chains are used at home for sugar, milk, creamer, coffee, and other means. oh, so there is a strawless day?

When we order food for take-out we also tell the service staff not to put in plastic spoons and fork because we're bringing and eating the food at home where we use our own utensils.

you're only the second person i know who does that and, when you think about it, it makes sense. some people do collect them to reuse for other things around the house.

@hereandthere Well, you're right - people who collect them can use the plastic utensils on picnics or when they feel lazy to wash the dishes after eating :)

Is that so people use less plastic - at least for a day? I haven't seen that out here . . . in fact people would probably scream if they didn't get their straws (they want to take their lidded drinks to go!). If it's not a sit down restaurant, we normally do not order drinks anyway - I always have water on hand to avoid the whole soda scene!

I've never heard of "strawless Wednesday" ... and it makes sense not to have those plastic cutleries if you are eating at home.. Anyway, it's been ages since we had take away or eating in a fast food restaurant.. I think the last time i had KFC was 7 years ago ..

I would cancel my drink if I could not get a straw. I sometimes have extras in my car but I should not have to go out to my car to get a straw.

I can't help - we don't buy fast food. But I would not be happy getting a soda from any rest. w/o having a straw.

Perhaps I didn't catch this? What is 'strawless'? So, if I bought a drink, how am I to drink it?? How is this an incentive to buy there?
