Movies of the Season

I enjoy vintage movies all year round and the Christmas holidays are no different. But I don't go in for the usual movies most do this time year. Miracle on 34th Street and It's A Wonderful Life aren't even on my list. The ones I like to see each and every year are ones you may not have even heard of before.
Holiday Inn- Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Their one upmanship is fun to watch and Fred's fourth of July dance routine is really something. The Holiday Inn is in Midville, Connecticut. A fictional town and Bing's character buys the inn and writes a song for each of the holidays. I usually watch this one around New Years.
White Christmas-Starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen, Mary Wickes, and Dean Jagger.
The Bishop's Wife- Probably my all time favorite holiday movie. Cary Grant is so heavenly playing Dudley, the angel doesn't seem like much of a stretch for him at all. Loretta Young is the bishop's wife and suave David Kniven is the bishop. Elsa Lancaster plays the flighty maid. This is the story of the bishop praying for help in raising funds for a new church. Dudley is the answer but he takes over his wive's entertainment and all the things the Bishop wants to do but his responsibilities get in the way.
A Christmas Carol- There are several versions.1923(Russell Thorndike) 1938(Reginald Owen),1945(Vincent Price and Taylor Holmes)1951 (Alistair Sim), 1978(W.C.Fields), 1984(Michael Bouquet), 1986(James Galway), 1999(Patrick Stewart),2004(Kelsey Grammar-a musical), 2009(Jim Carey)2012(Karl Argue) I have seen most of them but the one that I feel is most realistic and true to the origianl story is the 1951 version. There even afew more entitled Scrooge but I didn't add them because they are more theatrical and less true to the original story.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas- Fun, fun, fun. I never tire of this movie.Jim Carey does a great job of playing the grinch. I love the characters down in whoville and Grinch is even loveable in his way. All takes place within a snowflake.
A couple years ago I added "It Happened On Fifth Avenue". Such a cute and rather silly movie. It has Don Defore, Ann Harding, Charlie Ruggles, Victor Moore, and Gale Storm in it. Made in 1947 it is about a hobo who takes up residence in this house while the family is vacationing in Florida. He lets several others stay there and the confusion and drama that ensues is great fun.
Do you have favorites you enjoy watching this time of year?

The problem for me with Christmas movies is that they tend to show the same ones every year. The same happens with Disney cartoon excerpts, when the same clips are shown but a different person introduces them, thus it is not a repeat.

@celticeagle They are never the same when you already know what is about to happen.

I like repeats and the old vintage ones I see each and every year. That makes it a tradition.

Dolly Parton once did a movie called "A Smoky Mountain Christmas". It costarred Lee Majors and I watched it every Christmas. I don't know why I haven't seen it on television in years. My sister and I also would watch Meet Me in St. Louis every Christmas.

@coffeebreakwhatever .....A week day daily show on Hallmark had Dolly on for one week last summer. She had the actress who played her on. She is quite the little lady.

@celticeagle lots of chrstimas carols, done in claymation like was popular with the era of the California raisins, very cute, and here it is if this video works for you!
Featuring the California Raisins! This has been a big part of my children's childhood since we first saw it. I still love the beautiful song renditions and colorful animation. Rex (Johnny Counterfit) and Herb (Tim Conner) are in London's Christmas Square,

I think I"ve seen the 'traditional' Christmas movies many many times. I am really not someone who enjoys watching them over an over...I get bored too easily if I do that.

I am far too busy in the run up to Christmas but one film I do watch which is quite traditional and is on EVERY Christmas or a few days after is the sound of Music. It is almost like a compulsion to watch it. I do love the songs!
