a guide to Christmas shopping

Don't do it.
I've never been a fan of shopping. Once upon a time ago I was sure that there was something wrong with me because all girls like shopping. And pink. But definitely shopping. It seems to be a prerequisite that to be a fully-fledged woman, one must LOVE shopping.
Mumsy and I went shopping yesterday.
It was busy. Exceedingly busy. The streets were full of weary folk searching for the perfect shop which would sell them the perfect present for the perfect person in their lives. The shops were so crowded that in many we either turned around and left immediately, or we suffered the humiliation of perspiring secretly, sweat running down our backs, forming tiny little puddles in that cute little dip at the base of the spine.
I popped into Lakeland for Prosecco Gummies. Prosecco Gummies weren't where they should be. Oh, heavens. That was the only present I had the intention of actually getting. The nice man took the last packet out of the window display, bless his smelly cotton socks.
So, I failed in my shopping quest. Mummy did quite well. Then it rained. Nasty, cruel, WET rain, leaving a trail of brown paper Primark bags disintegrating on the sodden pavement. Good for the environment, but not good for wet weather.
And thus, my guide to Christmas shopping involves nothing but a credit/debit card, Internet access, and an I honestly couldn't give a flying squirrel about the delivery costs! attitude. Tea and biscuits is an added bonus. No crowds of people, no queues, no heatstroke, no stress, no rain ...
Perfect.
I did not fail today. There are presents zipping along the highway to my home even as we speak. Of course, I won't be here to take deliverance so will have to go through the rigmarole of collecting them from a neighbour or the delivery office on the High Street, but it still beats having to be amongst other people fighting for the last packet of Prosecco Gummies.
I do like the colour pink, now that I'm all grow'd up.

I like the colour pink too, but I hate shopping. I buy online as much as I can. If I really need to go shopping outside, I go early in the morning, when usually Moms with kids are not around. It so much more comfortable to shop in front of your computer sipping a hot chocolate with biscuits.

@Poppylicious I think back to the past, there were many more individual shops and stores and it was a lot more pleasant to go out shopping for the holidays. I hate the overcrowded malls.

{gigglin'!} to me, shop 'tis a 4 letter word'n to be avoided 't all costs. like yerself, i'd rather shop 'nline. this year i made most thingies, the only 'presents' i've bought 'tis wormer fer the horses. most'll be pleased 'tis apple flavored (i splurged 'n bought their 'goo' fer this go 'round'n also the next), one's gonna be mighty cranky 's she'd a tad odd 'n dislikes apples immensely. i still dislike pink, 've always looked dreadful'n such. the hubs, on the other hand, 'tis quite dashin' 'n the color, lol.

I hope you plan on wrapping the wormer up and including a gift receipt, so that the one who doesn't like apples can take it back and exchange it for a more yummy flavour!

Wonderful post! Not that I like it really; it prevented me from drinking my tea in bed watching Investigation Discovery Channel.
I came to the kitchen for a cup of tea to take to my bed. Mylot is my addiction, so on the way I checked. My eyes fell upon your post and I read. I did not stop reading even if it was long. I did not even find it long.
I don´t shop. Period. I am slave of my apricot tree during Christmas season. My presents are homemade apricot jams with containers made out of recycled jars.
Your post is the best I´ve read today at mylot. Congratulations!!!

Awww, thank you! I'm sorry I distracted you from your tellybox viewing! I have a friend who makes jams and chutneys with recycled jars. Lovely when they're homemade! :)

@Poppylicious I also do other things, but until we shake the last of the apricots from the tree, that´s a priority

I have enjoyed a shopping excursion from time to time....never in December...and rarely with a list. Grocery shopping is a necessary evil. I've learned to go either very early (5 minutes after the store opens) or very late. I don't do crowds...a grand opening sale, nope, not going there....Black Friday sales...not for me. I like pink....and blue.....and red....

I like going to the supermarket on a weekday evening. I try to avoid it on a Saturday, especially so near Christmas!

well in my country we do not really have that thing. We do not give presents to each other.. maybe you will find it like offensive, but yeah and I think that for Christmas is enough if all the family gather together.

Not offensive in the slightest. Different countries and cultures celebrate different things in different ways.

I am a woman and I definitely do NOT enjoy shopping! Except on the internet. I hate stores, the crowds, the people trying to get you to buy something, the children and babies miserably screaming because they've missed a meal, a nap, or both. Then the moms scream back at them and it drives me insane what the hell are they thinking dragging those poor kids around when they should be at home and playing happily?! That should be considered child abuse!
I'm not fond of pink but I'm getting used to it because my 3 year old granddaughter loves it.

Hurray! Not just me, then. I think that if I could go shopping on my own - quite literally, with no other customers or pesky Do you need any help today? shop staff - then I'd probably find it very pleasurable. :) The thing is that I do like shopping when I'm not with anyone. I crave the independence to go in whichever shop I want and spend as much time there as I want.
