I've caught the dreaded Christmas time cold. Does anyone have any good tips on how to feel better? My throat is absolute agony and painkillers haven't helped! Every swallow feels like torture.

Sadly there is nothing that can be done, I have had it for a month now and the doctors are saying it's just a waiting game! Drink plenty and rest is all they are saying. It's so annoying!

I know so many people who are ill at the moment, it is crazy! I have actually had viral conjunctivitis for nearly a month now and it's horrible.

@Clairelouiser It can be caused by a virus but it's a particular strain which can cause the conjunctivitis.

@redurnet I had conjunctivitis last month, is that part of this thing? It was the first time I ever had it.

hot tea with honey, and make sure to have some vitamin c that can heal you faster. I hope you get better soon!

Your best bet is to borrow a time machine, go back in time and avoid catching it.

@redurnet That is unlikely because it is constantly evolving into new strains.

Hot milk with some honey in it may help sooth your throat. But your cold will take its time. There is nothing that will shorten it. Rest, sleep, relax, watch silly TV programmes!

ive got a slight cold also. my throat is okay. ive been drinking hot tea and believe it or not the peppermint Altoids mints. The mints have really helped out a lot ! I guess they can be used as an alternative to them cough drops, same thing, concept, something minty for the throat and nasal passages.

thanks, wouldn't have thought mints would work but I suppose they have a similar menthol effect to many cough sweets.

Get some Listerine original formula, the nasty tasting stuff. Gargle with it every couple of hours and by the next day your throat will feel better--unless, of course, you have something more than a cold! It works for a lot of people I know.
