How much laundry is too much laundry?

Someone told us that she does not put everything straight into the laundry just because she had it on. If a shirt or blouse is worn over another shirt, she feels she can place in on a hanger and wear it again.
This might especially make sense to the one doing all the laundry. If children are taught this, not only will they help save on laundry expenses, the clothes will last longer.
One family we know has nine children. Imagine how many times a day that washing machine is used!

We remember the days when some were allowed to smoke at work. So many more things had to be laundered or at least hung outdoors to get the odor out.

@PatZAnthony That is understandable that the clothes would also feel smoke .
Good thing , at home no one smokes .

When the layered look became the trend, and also during very cold winters I became quite conscious of the fact that if we washed everything every day it was going to amount to doubled laundry. I will wear a jacket over a shirt and hang it back up, and I will hang up that extra shirt I sometimes wear, unless I spill food on it. It has taught me to be more careful.

It seems in some cases, so much time is spent on doing more laundry than we have to.

The larger the household, the more the laundry and the utility bills.

More people should realize this. Unless something is spilled on outerwear, why are we laundering things so often.

@PatZAnthony We waste water, we pollute with the soap and the clothes last less if we wash them every day. It's a nonsense.

I am the same way. If I just put something on to go pick up the kids at school and then come straight home, I rehang those clothes. I wear comfy clothes around the house and when I leave I will put on jeans and a different shirt. I get back home and change right back into my comfy clothes again.

I agree. There are clothes that can be worn more than one time. Children are another thing, specially when they are small.

Nine!! Incredible. If I wear something over another shirt, I am likely to wear it again before laundering.
