I come from a family that is very creative. All of the women on my maternal side of the family were creative. My Granny, aunts, and my mama all knew how to sew, knit, crochet and make various crafts. They were/are all very good at it too. Over the years various quilts, dolls, clothing, stuffed animals, and other various projects have taken place within the family fold and they have all turned out nicely. Now, when it comes to me, I am not creative. I seem to blunder everything I touch, craft wise. I love watching videos on Youtube of these creative people making decorations for the holidays, coming up with neat organizing ideas, making beautiful jewelry and I just drool. I have been working for months on decorating my planner. I guess practice makes perfect because I a getting better at color patterns and neater lines. I hope that one day I will be accomplished enough to share my crafts on Youtube myself. Are you creative? What is your special creative outlet? I just wanted to add that creativity spreads way beyond sewing and knitting and crocheting. Writing, photography, painting, jewelry making, etc... What are you good at? picture created by me at cooltext

I don’t think I am as creative as others as I rarely come up with ideas of things to create on my own but if I can see something I usually can make it. I love creating beautiful things.

@Shellyann36 My 13 year old daughter is to talented she can just sit and draw or paint amazing things out of her head. It is amazing to me. She is super creative and crafty I absolutely love it. I truly wish I had her talent.

@shaggin That is awesome! Other members of my family are all crafty, they can sew, crochet, knit and make lots of things. I seem to have 5 thumbs when it comes to creative things.

@shaggin I am in the same boat. I cannot vision crafts just by looking at items. I am not one of these people that can walk into a craft section see some buttons and automatically come up with a way to use them. I have to see someone else do it first.

I was never any good with making crafts of any kind (stupid hands I have), but I guess creativity is not only limited to crafts, you can be creative in other intangible ways too, like talking or writing (this is tangible!)

@bluemoonpavilion you are 100% correct. I did edit my post to include crafts such as writing, photography, painting, etc. To me, writing is one of the most important crafts. Without writers, I would not be able to escape my world and step into an imaginary one when I have a chance.

@bluemoonpavilion What sort of books do you enjoy? I am into several types of fiction. I love mysteries, paranormal, vampires, werewolves, zombies. All sorts of things. Of course, that is just what I like to read at the moment. My tastes change every few months. ,

Nope, not a single creative drop of blood in my veins. My kids are though... not really with crafts but with acting and music. My 14 year old just made All County for baritone again.

@Shellyann36 It's band.. but he can sing too. Baritone is an instrument, also called a Euphonium.

I love arts and crafts that's why I study crochet in 2011. I've made lots of items so far that I'm able to give as a gift to friends.

I like sewing and embroidering more than knitting. I like to paint and to take photos. I also like to make cakes that are good to eat but also nice to look at.

@LadyDuck I think that cake decorating is an art form. I love to watch the baking shows and competitions where pastries are decorated.

@Shellyann36 This is something I love to do. Even when I prepare the food for the holidays, I try to decorate the plates. It's so nice to put on the table something pretty to the view.

I'm not at all creative in the conventional sense, but I suppose making a garden could be described as creative.

We could be twins because I am exactly the same way! I buy book after book for our schooling thinking, I can do this one, I stink at them all though.

See, you turned your own idea around. SInce you do write, then you are creative, just not in the same ways as your foremothers. I thought I just made up that word, but someone must have beat me to it. I used to knit, but prefer crocheting. I used to make a few hook rugs. Some I made with the pattern on the canvas and one I did my own pattern for. I've made two quilts and have neither one anymore. I took art in school and while I'm not the best with drawing or painting, I enjoyed doing batiking and made a few wall hangings. When I retire I'd like to take up some type of painting and I always wanted to learn to play the piano, but that will have to wait until the next life.

My family was creative too, Dad loved carving wood, Mom was a sewer and an artist with weeds and flowers and put them in the church every Sunday. My brother followed Dad and became a really good woodworker, My sister is a quilter. My art is painting and I find it so comforting, I lose myself while doing it.

I am good at crocheting but that's about it. And I write - and that's supposed to be a creative thing.

@JudyEv oh yes, I do consider writing as being creative. I should have included that at the top. Perhaps I will edit it. Writing, drawing, painting, photography and everything else.

the only way to get better't anythin'n life 'd be to practice, practice, practice. which 'f course requires patience :) glad to hear that'cher gettin' happier with yer planner decoratin'. my momma 'tis a whiz 't home decor. ya ought to see her house! fer the holidays e'ery single room 'tis decorated with Christmas cheer, includin' both loos 'n the laundry room. i aint one much fer decoratin' the house. my creative outlets i reckon'd be quiltin' 'n snappin' pics. both'f which i strive to learn all i can'n strive to get better 't both.

Everybody has some creative talent somewhere hidden within themselves, it's a matter of whether or not they can reach down deep inside of them and find it! I find I am most creative when I am relaxed and at ease. When I am stressed or overwhelmed, it makes it hard to get those creative juices flowing!
