My son hates writing but wrote his first poem

One thing I have always loved to do is write. As a kid I wrote poems and stories and every night I wrote in a diary. This lasted until I was about 23 and my babies took up to much of my time and I started writing on sites online instead of in my diary.
My son does not have my love of writing. It is very hard for him to put his thoughts to paper.
In cyber school he has been learning about poems and for his homework tonight one thing he had to do was write a poem. You would have thought with how he carried on crying for so long that he was being tortured.
Finally he got one written and I thought I would share it here. Keep in mind that he turned 9 in mid October.
The Present
Santa has a present I wonder what it could be
It is big and long I don't know what it is so can you tell me?
Look up in the snowy sky
Look at the reindeer fly by.

What a lovely poem and seems like he is looking forward to Christmas! Remember to give him a great big present!
My son is 5 years old and he loves to write. He likes the story of Goldilocks and one day he just wrote out the entire story in his writing book but he has to ask me about each and every word because although he can read well enough, he can't really remember the spelling yet.
I'm crossing my fingers that he will make a great writer one day.

@crazyhorseladycx We live in an old house. The furnace makes a loud boom an the vents make noise. It has been cold lately so the furnace has been running a lot more so its creeping him out. I've had grown men scared of the furnace noises.

I think that is pretty good for a 9-year-old. What a shame it is such hard work for him.

Thank you :-) Hopefully he will have an easier time now if he has to do it again. Today's writing homework today was much easier thankfully.

"You would have thought with how he carried on crying for so long that he was being tortured." - you can't help rolling your eyes when kids get overly dramatic. hahaha! he did a good job, though! i remember i was in grade 3 when we learned to write whole sentences in english.

nice poem. I didn't like writing poems in school. I always like writing stories instead.
