I don't think they are equal. While I do like online friends and I also talk to "real life" friends online, it's nice to be able to talk to people in person sometimes. But I really appreciate how much my online friends have been there for me over the years too.

I should have put this here!
"Yes, I agree. Sometimes you just need that physical connection, to reenforce the emotional connection ya know? hanging out, going to the movies or out to eat. Physically being together doing things is an important part of friendship I think. "

That depends!
You can be your own friend, everything starts with friendship
Friends in literal sense, with what i have experienced are those kinds who usually try to show they are trustworthy but really arent
It is too difficult to find a good one but once you do, you are the most luckiest person!

friends are the one who are part of our life.i believe real friends will be more closer than those cyber friends.without seeing faces and knowing more about their behaviour and characters we can't express all our thoughts to them.but it is not the case with real friends. So for me real and thick friends are more closer to me than cyber friends.

Humm..good points about behavior and characters. For some people though; I think it's easier to pour out their thoughts to strangers, than to people they are close to.
I guess the answer is as varying as the individuals answering the question.
Thank you!

Friends are definitely needed and while I wish I had some close friends that I could hang out with, I'm very glad to have my online friends. They're the best friends I could ever hope for.

I'm sorry you feel that you don't have close friends. Online friends can be a good subsitute, but get yourself out there and have some fun away from the pc too!

Well, I spend little time with friends really. I like to spend a lot of time alone and am rather ambitious about my writing. I often flake out on outings just to stay home and write. I realize this isn't the perfect way to be, but that's just how I am. I don't feel that I need many friends, but having someone close enough to really talk to when you need it is nice. Take it from me, not having someone (at least one person) is rough...really rough.

I am sort of the same way. I prefer the company of myself and my immediate family to others.
I have few friends that I've known for years; but we all live in different states, and talk only rarely.
That seems to work fine for me:)
Having a bunch of people you call "friend" just leads to drama and trouble in my experience.
Good luck with your writing! I hope you have mucho success!

Only a true and trustworthy friend is helpful..so that loneliness does not prevail.

I need real people. I need real friends. The internet is fun, but it can't replace flesh and blood.

It is hard to believe, yet I think some people do it.
Good people; with low self confidence or disfigurement etc.
Rather sad...
