Day 101 Proverbs 14:24 Proverbs 14:24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly. Riches doesn’t always come with dollar signs attached. Most often a person’s riches are in the friends he has, the way he encourages others, supports his family, gives to others in need. Only those who take care of their own needs without concern for others, hunting down the almighty dollar as they do so, are fools because they don’t recognize what true wisdom is. Solomon displayed both wisdom and foolishness during his reign as king. When it came to the affairs of state, he was wise. When it came to his household, he was foolish. As long as Solomon followed the Law of Moses, and adhered to the ways of his father, God and wisdom were on his side. However, the moment he listened to his foreign wives and started building altars to their false gods, he displayed foolishness and folly. It is to Solomon’s credit that he put away the idols and turned back to God in the later years of his life. You can see the evidence of his return to God, setting aside the foolishness of his youth in the final chapter of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (KJV) Sometimes it takes a lifetime to realize the folly of your ways and turn back to what is most important in life. That’s why people are called backsliders who turn to folly after they had known and followed the Lord Jesus Christ. There is always hope as long as a person has breath in their body. What is on display in your life? What do others see in you? If you have followed the ways of the world, there is still time to return to God. He is always waiting with open arms to receive you back to himself. Let’s pray: Father, help me remain in you and not display the ways of the world. Give me wisdom to know when I start to stray from you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 17 December 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
