Does a new born child taste food?

When children are born they are fed either with breast milk or powder milk. Generally milk tastes sweet. No other food is given to the child till they attain 6 months age. So many wonder does a new born child have taste buds to taste the different types of food?

In Kolkata, India winter is mild, we have temperature around 10 degree centigrade. No snowing.
