Going in circles…

# 49 My son handed me a bag of clothing he couldn’t wear anymore to do something about rather than them crowding in his wardrobe… So I went through them first before adding them to my donation pile… I found a short and 4 T-shirts that would fit me or my husband – one shirt was even still in plastic wrap or has never been worn… I kept them in my wardrobe and this morning my husband wore one of the T-shirts… I tried on the new one and it fitted me nicely... Then I was reminded how I used to have a college sweat shirt and I handed it down to my son because he liked it so much years ago… Some T-shirts that belonged to my husband were also handed down to our sons if they wanted them when they were growing up... Now they outgrown us, and their clothing were handed down to us… We get to wear their nice stuff that they don’t want or won’t fit them anymore… Image credit: Pixabay

Yeah, I guess I've never really thought that I'd be wearing my children's clothing... but I am!

@JudyEv It's fun, isn't it? My son had a knitted Quiksilver long black hoodie jacket that became too small for him - it's my favorite to wear in the winter now...

Yeah, I think he got that one for free from some kind of a promotional event at his school - but hey, it fits me and I don't mind wearing it at all... It has some writing on it, but basically it's just a nice black shirt I can even wear to go shopping or something...

@infatuatedbby Yeah, I think there's some kind of logo (can't quite remember what it was exactly) - but mostly just plain black shirt with some white writing on it...

I used to have that problem... But why is it that her clothes fit me nicely now? Uh oh... I guess I became more of her size as I got older...

@LadyDuck That's great! There must be at least 10 kg more of me now compared to before children time... maybe 2 or 3 sizes up or something like from a small to medium size now...

Yes, one particular shirt was definitely a returnee - it belonged to my husband first, then he gave it to his son to wear, and it came back to my husband through that pile my son gave me...

@Jessicalynnt Yeah, it's a Guess shirt... He bought it at the factory outlet in Cooper Building downtown LA, California must be about 20+ years ago... But it's a really good quality thick cotton shirt to withstand the wear all those years...

My daughter is quickly catching up to me . . . I just may experience that full circle soon enough! Instead of hand me downs, would their clothing be considered hand me ups?

@sishy7 The clothes may be nicer, but I don't know that I'd wear some of the things she wears . . . in that sense I know she wouldn't want any hand me downs from me either .

Yes... And you know how we tend to buy nicer things for our kids than we do for ourselves, right? Well, at some stage we may even get to enjoy those nice things even if they may not be brand new anymore...

That is a good way to do it. I remember when my youngest son and I wore the same size of jeans. I loved it when he would give me some. It was the same with t-shirts.

@sishy7 It sure is. I like the t-shirts cause my sons and I have the same taste. I still have a t-shirt that my son bought me when he was in high school. He is almost 39 now so you know how old it is. I do wear it a lot when I am not going anywhere. It is starting to wear out.

@velvet53 I have Lakers t-shirts when they won a treble back in early 2000s - yes, starting to wear out but very comfy to wear... They kinda going in circles too in our family... Obviously I wore them when I first bought them, then as my kids grew up, they wanted to wear the t-shirts, then when I saw they hardly wore them anymore, I asked if I could wear them again instead of just sitting in their wardrobe...

My dad had 2 really nice fleece sweaters that are plaid and couldn't fit him so my mom gave them to me. I love them, perfect for working outside on a crisp day.

@sishy7 Indeed that is true. To be honest though any place I pickup clothes from even used clothes I buy more male items then female.

At 4'11" I could only wear mom's blouses so she and I would share them. Then as I got older and began gaining weight I would give her my old blouses that were too small. It worked out really well for a number of years. Since I'm 5'5" I couldn't give her my pants, they were way too big for her and not just in length

I have problem with pants between me and my sister too... She'd love to give me whatever she wears if I want them, and I do want many of them because she wears the nicest thing... But her pants are always too long and too small for me... She's taller and skinnier than me - length I can probably cut out to adjust, but when I cannot even put them on me then that's a problem...

Yes, all of my sons are taller than me... They're also bigger except maybe for the youngest. He's very skinny so his shirts may be too small for me unless I don't mind wearing something that's very tight on me...

Oh, wow, sishy! That is really funny/weird to me.... When I get tired of one of my t-shirts, Pretty always takes it for a nightie... Any sweats that I buy always end up being put into the dryer when the heat setting is too hot for that material, so she ends up with those, too. I have never been small enough for any of Pretty's clothing to fit me. Any of my old stuff she isn't interested in and everything she has worn until she decides she doesn't want anymore gets taken to one of the homeless shelters in our area.
